Marvel’s Wolverineis just around the corner with a hopeful release date in late 2024. In the same universe as the threeMarvel’s Spider-Mangames, fans can run around as Logan in Insomniac’s newestMarvelvideo game. While not much information has been provided to the community by Insomniac, manyfans have speculatedon the “who’s, what’s, and when’s” ofMarvel’s Wolverine.
Wolverine has plenty of villains to utilize for a linear storyline, as well as plenty of allies that can show up as well. With ties to the X-Men, Avengers, and even Spider-Man, many different faces have the potential to glow in the spotlight at some point inMarvel’s Wolverine.
10Sabretooth
One of Wolverine’s Most Popular Villains
Sabretooth is easily one of the most obvious choices for an antagonist in a video game revolving around Logan, also known as James Howlett. That’s because Sabretooth is Wolverine’s arch-nemesis throughout most of their many mediums and adaptations.
With powers and abilities that closely resemble one another, it is only natural that Sabretooth and Wolverine meet each other in battle so often. InMarvel’s Wolverine,Sabretooth may be the lead antagonist, but if Insomniac reaches for a narrative that delves even deeper, Sabretooth may just be a villain for Wolverine to defeat before taking on the main boss.
9Spider-Man & Spider-Man
Insomniac’s Spider-Men
Insomniac has already confirmed thatMarvel’s Wolverinewould be taking place inthe same universeasMarvel’s Spider-Man, meaning that the various heroes in all respective titles have a chance at meeting one another. Wolverine isn’t a stranger to the invigorating life within New York City, making it possible for Peter Parker or Miles Morales to work together with Logan on a mission.
InMarvel’svarious comic storylines, Wolverine and Spider-Man had fought side by side plenty of times; the Web-Head (Peter Parker) had even become one of the few heroes that Wolverine truly respected and trusted.
8Professor Xavier
Ally and Teacher
Professor Xavier is one of the strongest heroes in the Marvel universe, as he uses his brilliant mind to control various things and events around him, including people. After honing his skills as a mutant, Xavier opened upa school for Mutantsall around the world to learn about their gifts.
Wolverine had once graduated from Xavier’s school, as well as helped the Professor teach students and train them in combat. It wouldn’t be a grand surprise to see Professor Xavier inMarvel’s Wolverine, assuming that Logan had already gone to the school and made friends with the X-Men.

The Incredible Hulk #181
Many fans who had analyzed theMarvel’s Wolverineannouncement trailer had pointed outone major easter eggthat had caused the community to speculate the game’s storyline and events: The “HLK 181” license plate. While Logan sits at a bar enjoying himself before some customers make too much noise, fans get a shot of the bar, showcasing a license plate with letters and numbers resemblingThe Incredible Hulk#181.
In this issue ofThe Amazing Hulk#181, Hulk and Wolverine battle it out before eventually making friends with one another. This easter egg could also hint at Wendigo’s debut in Insomniac’sMarveluniverse.
6Deadpool
Enemy, Rival, and Friend
Yuri Lowenthal, the voice actor for Peter Parker inMarvel’s Spider-Man’sdifferent titles, has once expressed his desire for Deadpool to appear in the Insomniac universe. WithDeadpool having such close tiesto both Spider-Man and Wolverine, the voice actor and the community may just see that happen.
InMarvel’s Wolverine,Deadpool could make an appearancein many different ways, with one even being a Deadpool cameo of Wade Wilson fromDeadpool (2013). Whatever the case, Deadpool being included inMarvel’s Wolverinewould make major waves in the gaming industry, and would be a flawless aspect in Wolverine’s narrative.
5Mariko Yashida
The Love Interest
Unlike Peter Parker, Logan doesn’t have a love interest thatMarvelfans instantly associate him with; Wolverine gets around fairly often. But, there are a select few love interests in Marvel Comics that Wolverine finds himself with, one of which marks a major feat in Logan’s life.
Mariko Yashida, daughter of the crime lord Shingen, first met Wolverine when the X-Men had been asked to help Japan. After developing a mutual attraction, the two watered their garden of love and became an exclusive couple. Mariko being introduced inMarvel’s Wolverinewould be a fantastic way to prepare designations in the title’s plot and give Wolverine a ‘reason’ for the events of the game.
4Lady Deathstrike
Daughter of Dark Wind
Lady Deathstrike is one of the many complicated foes that Wolverine faces throughout his many comic book adaptations. At some points, she was even a romantic partner to Wolverine, but never did they truly work out. Lady Deathstrike, whose name is Yuriko Oyama, is the daughter of Lord Dark Wind.
Lord Dark Wind, also known as Kenji Oyama, created the Adamantium process, which went on to help create Wolverine. Seeing the deadly Wolverine make his way into the world with her father’s creation, Lady Deathstrike ignited a feud with Logan and sought out conflict with the hero whenever she could.
3Itsu
Mother of Daken
In some later storylines, Wolverine meets a lovely woman named Itsu while he is training with Saburo. After the two fell in love, it was revealed soon that Itsu had become pregnant with Logan’s child. This child would go on to become Daken, Wolverine’s son who had very similar powers.
Marvel’s Wolverinecould potentially set up a sequel or such with Itsu playing a part in the game, especially with Daken being teased for future releases. Whatever the case, Itsu meeting Logan in Japan would also set up a unique setting for Insomniac to utilize: Japan.
2Jean Grey
X-Men Companion and Lover
Jean Grey is one of thefew X-Men charactersthat Logan had gotten along with. On more than one occasion, the beastly hero even fell in love with the dangerous psychic. Whatever the case, the two always had a true bond with one another.
If Jean Grey were to appear inMarvel’s Wolverine, Insomniac would have the potential to spread out their universe even further, with the X-Men, a Dark Phoenix plot, and much more. Jean Grey could play a vital part inMarvel’s Wolverine, whether it be to aid Logan in his adventure, play the love interest, or simply cameo at some point in the title.
1Colossus
X-Men Best Friend
Though Logan likes to play the ‘lone wolf’ role more than half the time, he wouldn’t be complete without his X-Men allies. With that, it’s fairly difficult to tell which hero is Wolverine’s best friend, but after filing it down, Nightcrawler and Colossus seem like obvious choices.
Colossus seems like the best choice forMarvel’s Wolverine, as he has almost always been there for Logan in different universes. Seeing Colossus inMarvel’s Wolverinewould be a treat for many, and could help spark new narratives beyondMarvel’s Wolverine.
