Microsoft has begun rolling out an update for the Xbox mobile app that now includes the ability to earn even more Microsoft Reward points. The program allows users with a connectedMicrosoftaccount to earn points by completing various tasks on their Xbox consoles or via a web browser.These tasks will usually involve buying digital games from the Xbox Game Store, earning achievements in games, or simply using the Bing search browser. These points can then be redeemed in the form of rewards, including gift cards and entries into competition draws to win things bespoke Xbox Series consoles or unique PCs. As spotted by folks on Twitter, just opening the app will net an additional 25 points, and if players load up games on their cellphones or PC, they could find their rewards balances quickly skyrocketing.
Gamers cannot just boost their balances on the app either as they can redeem points against a myriad of rewards, including monthly passes to Xbox Game Pass. Along with the usual goodies, players can also trade in their points for in-game loot such asOverwatch 2’s in-game currency, Overwatch Coins. This allows players access to the PVP shooters’ cosmetic rewards without having to spend any cash whatsoever.
Microsoft isn’t the only company to offer a rewards program as Nintendo has its long-standing My Nintendo scheme where players earn Gold Coins on every purchase on the Nintendo Switch eShop. Not one for falling behind the competition, Sony has also recently entered the loyalty area with the launch of PlayStation Stars. Along with earning points for playing games and earning trophies,PlayStation Stars also offers digital collectiblesfor gamers to display on their profile.
With the controlled rollout of Microsoft Rewards, it seems that Team Green is playing it safe and are keen to avoid a repeat ofpeople being locked out of Microsoft Rewards without warning. Although the issue was fixed and the affected accounts were restored, the outage during the summer caused players to be locked out of their accounts which reset their streaks, losing out on various points bonuses.
