Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes,amusou-style spinoff of the tactical strategy seriesFire Emblem,is releasing in late June, and developer Nintendo has continued to dole out information bit by tantalizing bit. While previous trailers revealed several playable characters as well as provided hints about the story, a new magazine article on the topic ofFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopesdelved a bit deeper into how the gameplay works to add aFire Emblemtwist to classicWarriorscombat.

The spinoff title returns to the world of Fodlan, the setting of 2019 main series titleFire Emblem: Three Houses.Players take on the role ofShez, a new protagonist, and team up with one of the game’s three Lord characters: Edelgard, Dimitri, or Claude. The game features an alternate take on the events ofThree Houses,with former protagonist Byleth now serving in a potentially antagonistic role. LikeThree Houses,the game will be split into three distinct routes: Crimson Blaze, Azure Gleam, and Golden Wildfire.

A recent article inFamitsumagazine dives deeper into the gameplay ofFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.While playable characters will have access to multiple classes, each character will have a Preferred class, which will provide them with unique benefits. Some of these Preferred classes will be unique to the character, with protagonist Shez having the duel-wielding “Fleugel” class. One returning element fromThree Housesis personal skills, which are unique to each unit. The article provided examples of these with theretainers Dedue, Hilda, and Hubert. Hilda’s Preferred class is Brigand and her personal skill lets her wield lightning magic, while Hubert is a Dark Mage capable of creating magical spikes in battle. Dedue, who prefers the Armored Knight class, can perform an attack that breaks through multiple enemy lines at once.

Also returning fromThree Housesare Combat Arts and Battalions. Combat Arts use a Durability system to perform, although it has not yet been revealed how Durability is recharged. Battalions take damage when the player does, and provide a beneficial effect until it has been hit too many times and shuts down. Different characters will have access to different Combat Arts and other abilities, allowing characters tofeel unique despite overlap in classes.

Returning from theWarriorsseries is Morale, which allows characters to do more damage depending on how high their Morale is. InFire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes,Morale can be raised by performing out-of-battle tasks with characters, such as training or sharing meals with them. While they have not yet been confirmed, otherbonding activitiesfromThree Housescould return, including drinking tea or performing chores together. Finally, there will also be sub-quests, which reward players with money, items, and more energy for performing out-of-battle activities.
