NetherRealm Studios has been quite generous to fans ofMortal Kombat 11over the past couple weeks. Recently, the developer revealed a new trailer detailing both the Kombat Pack 2 as well asMortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition, which includes three new DLC characters in Mileena, Rain, and Rambo. In addition, NetherRealm announced that the celebrated fighting game would bereceiving a free next-gen console upgradefrom the current-gen PS4 and Xbox One versions to next-gen consoles.

Since then, the studio has been releasing new gameplay trailers, debuting the movesets of the various characters. This trend began first withthe classic purple ninja, Rain, making a splash with players around the world. Now NetherRealm has released the gameplay trailer for the guest character Rambo, with perceptive players finding a movie reference within the trailer.

Whilethe trailer shows off many of Rambo’s movesthat are references to the soldier’s many films, this one might have been missed by some players. This reference was spotted by @ZachHub on Twitter, who noticed that Rambo has a sliding low kick that knocks the opponent down, followed by a quick elbow to the face. He pointed out that this is actually a nod to the originalRambomovie as John attempts to escape police custody.

Mortal Kombat 11’s creative director, Ed Boon, confirmed that this is, in fact, a reference to the movie by retweeting Zach and saying “Nothing gets by our fans. :)” Boon may be understatingMortal Kombatfans' perceptiveness. Not long before theUltimate Editionwas revealed by NetherRealm, players on Twitter worked quickly and decisively to solve various hints Boon provided as to who the newMortal Kombat 11characters would be. In a matter of days,players deciphered the clues provided, landing on Rain.

While this trailer and all of its hidden references has many players excited forMortal Kombat 11 Ultimate Edition, others are curious if the game could be receiving more content down the road.With the addition of fan favorite character Mileena, some players have begun to worry that the studio won’t be able to “one-up” itself in terms of excitement and player hype.

With that in mind, there is certainly a possibility that moreMortal Kombat 11content is on the way. Shortly before theUltimate Editionand Kombat Pack 2 were announced, a reliable leaker stated on Twitter that the game had plans for multiple newDLC characters including Sektor, Smoke, and Harley Quinn. And although none of these characters have been announced yet, it’s very likely that they will be treated with the same amount of respect and reverential treatment that Rambo appears to be getting.

Mortal Kombat 11is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, Switch, and Xbox One, with versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X currently in development.
