Mortal Kombat 1has already featured its fair share of high-profile crossovers with the likes of Omni-Man, Peacemaker, and the upcoming inclusion of Homelander. ButMortal Kombat 1still has plenty of room to add more and the game’s creator, Ed Boon, has been teasing a variety of potential new characters that may be part ofMortal Kombat 1’s future plans.
Recently, Ed Boon has been hosting a variety of polls on his official Twitter account that are asking for fan feedback onwhat characters should come toMortal Kombat 1next. That said,Friday the 13th’s Jason Voorhees has stuck out among these teases due to Ed Boon not only featuring him in a poll but also hyping up his inclusion inMultiVersus.
Ed Boon Teasing Jason Voorhees in Mortal Kombat 1
As one of the most iconic faces, or masks, in the horror genre,Jason Voorhees is already part of theMortal Kombatfranchise. His first and only appearance in the long-running fighting series was inMortal Kombat Xas a DLC character, but there is a very real possibility that he or other classic slashers could return.
Ed Boon Asks Fans Which Characters Should Return
On May 14, Boon went to Twitter to ask fans who they thought shouldreturn to theMortal Kombatfranchise. The poll offered three options, with each option containing three characters that could possibly be featured inMortal Kombat 1:
Although all the options offered would be great to see again, Alien, Predator, and Jason were the winners among fans who participated in the poll. With the game’s first DLC Kombat Pack nearing completion, it only makes sense that a second one could already be in the works, and based on the feedback of this poll, it could lead Jason back tothe brutal world ofMortal Kombat.
At the time of this writing, there is no official confirmation that Jason Voorhees will be coming toMortal Kombat 1; plus, Ed Boon has made similar remarks before and nothing suggests that any posts on social media will lead to anything at all.
Paying Special Attention to Jason Voorhees
Not only has Ed Boon been offering polls for fan feedback, but he’s also been really focused on Jason Voorhees in general. It’s now been revealed thatJason Voorhees is inMultiVersus, the brawler title based on Warner Bros. properties, and Ed Boon has clearly been quite excited about the inclusion of the character. Once again, on Twitter, he mentioned that those who miss playing as Jason inMortal Kombat Xcan at least play as him inMultiVersus.
This could easily just be the enthusiasm of someone who is a huge fan of the character, but the constant attention Boon is giving to Jason could be hinting at something bigger.MultiVersusandMortal Kombatdon’t have much in common, especially when it comes to the violence, which will make it interesting to see Jason in a cartoonish setting.
However, with both games being owned by Warner Bros., it isn’t too far out of the realm of possibility forMortal Kombat 1to bring back Jason, in addition to him being inMultiVersus. Jason was incredibly fun to play inMortal Kombat X, so hopefully Ed Boon’s excitement regarding the character is hinting at something more.
