Jimmy Donaldson, better known as Mr Beast, is a longtime fan ofLeague of Legends, having appeared in several YouTube videos and Twitch tournaments alongside some of themost iconicLeague of Legendspersonalities. Though he expressed interest in purchasing his own team in 2020, no further information was made public and, prior to today, he had yet to make an official appearance at a Riot-runLeague of Legendsevent.

However, fans of the game were shocked when Mr Beast was revealed as a guest analyst for the World Championship Final, the biggest night of the year forLeague of Legendsas anesport. While on the desk, he spoke about his love of the game and his predictions for the upcoming series prior to being asked by fellow announcer Isaac “Azael” Cummings-Bentley if the rumors of him purchasing a team in North America’s LCS were true, with many fans having previously theorized that he would usesome of his immense wealthto create a team that would compete within the league. Responding quickly, Mr Beast confirmed that he would “100%” be purchasing a team, but that “the question is more when.”
Mr Beast would go on to say that “If we do it, I want to have a team that makes it to a stage like this,” pointing to the sold-out arena eagerlyawaiting the beginning of the 2022 World Final, which will see T1 attempt to win a historic fourth championship against heavy underdogs DRX. No team from North America’s LCS has ever won an international event, something which Mr Beast seems eager to change by taking his time to compile a team capable of competing for the Summoner’s Cup.
With the LCS trending downwards in popularity over recent years, a team run by Mr Beast would be a welcome addition to its ranks and would likelydraw in a massive amount of new players. However, whether this would translate to better performances on the international stage remains to be seen, with all three North American teams having crashed out of the 2022 World Championship, which was hosted across four North American cities, with a combined 3-15 record.
