While Retro Studio was the primary developer ofMetroid Prime Remasteredit has been revealed that multiple studios worked on the new version of the game. The game’s credits cite several additional studios that have worked on various Switch ports over the years. Oddly enough,Metroid Prime Remastereddoes not credit the original developers outside a broad credit to the teams that worked on it.
The original version ofMetroid Primewas released in 2002 and was met with critical praise and sold over 2.2 million copies worldwide. The game would get two direct sequels and multiple spin-offs. For some time, rumors had been floating around that a remaster of the original game was in the works beforeMetroid Prime Remasteredwas unveiledduring February’s Nintendo Direct.

Upon further inspection of the game’s credits, it was revealed that several development teams worked on the remaster. LongtimeMetroid Primedeveloper, Retro Studios, was the primary studio on the remaster but was aided by several others. This included Iron Galaxy Studio which is best known for its work in theSwitch version ofSkyrim,Diablo 3, andOverwatch. Other studios involved in the development include Airship Images Limited, Atomhawk Design, CGBot, Gamesim Inc, Liquid Development, Original Force LTD, Shanghai Mineloader Digital Technology, and Zombot Studio in various roles.
Currently, Retro Studios is at work on a fourthMetroid Primegame. The game was originally announced in 2017 before development restarted in 2019 when Retro Studios took over the project but no end appears to be in sight. As late as May 2022, the studio wasposting job listings forMetroid Prime 4, indicating that the game still has a lot of work left on it. However, the newMetroid Prime Remasteredcould mean that the company and studio may be ready to unveil the game once again.
Rumors of a remaster ofMetroid Primefor the Switchhad been floating around the internet for quite some time. Originally it was speculated that a full trilogy edition would be released for the latest Nintendo console before it began to veer toward the first game. Currently, the remaster has a 96 score on Metacritic with a 9.5 user score on the site as well. While some may be disappointed that it wasn’t a full trilogy version, it nonetheless shows that there was an audience for the first game all the same.
Metroid Prime Remasteredis now available on the Nintendo Switch for digital download with physical copies coming on February 22nd.
