One such fan stumbled upon a delightful Easter egg while exploring the sprawling city of New Atlantis and took to Reddit to share their discovery. User rafalmio posted a screenshot to theStarfieldsubreddit, showing an old relic they’d found on display in The Lodge, headquarters of Constellation, one ofStarfield’smajor factions. The old piece of technology in question appears to be the camera fromPerseverance, a real-life Mars rover deployed by NASA to explore and study the Red Planet. The title of the post identifies the camera withPerseveranceand includes an image of the rover alongside the game screenshot for comparison, but several users in the comments section pointed out that the in-game item appears to more closely match the camera fromCuriosity, the Mars rover that precededPerseverance.
Curiositylanded on the surface of Mars in 2012 and has been consistently exploring the planet and performing various scientific experiments ever since. The rover’s successor,Perseverance, reached Mars in 2021, and although its design is very similar toCuriosity, there are a few subtle differences in the two rovers' camera modules that markCuriosityas the more likely inspiration for thisStarfieldEaster egg. In addition to being a nice tribute to a remarkable scientific achievement, the inclusion of theCuriositycamera inStarfieldgives players some insight into the goals and capabilities of the Constellation faction. Given that theevents ofStarfieldtake place in 2330, the presence of the rover relic means that members of Constellation have managed to recover and preserve a piece of technology that is over 300 years old, solely for the purpose of commemorating humanity’s scientific accomplishments.
Easter eggs and fun surprises like this one are likely to be tucked away in countless places throughoutStarfield, giving players a strong incentive to explore the vast interstellar setting that Bethesda has created.
