Fans ofAquamanwere treated with a new sneak peek at Patrick Wilson’s Ocean Master in the upcoming sequel to the DC action movie. Ocean Master is the half-sibling of the titular character and also the one who had the throne of Atlantis before having it taken byAquamanhimself. Ocean Master is typically written as a villain who wages war on the human population due to the neglectful treatment of the environment; specifically the ocean.

Ocean Master was the villain of the firstAquamanfilm but that doesn’t help fans know if he’ll be on the same side for the sequel. One thing fans do know now is that he will be rocking a different look whenAquaman 2comes in theaters this December.

Director James Wan posted a photo on his Instagram page alongside Wilson, and the photo made light humor of the new look as Ocean Master went from being clean cut to growing out all of his facial hair following his imprisonment. It shows how he went from being at the top and now has all of that stripped from him. Some fans noted that he looks similarto the commonly used look for Aquaman, specifically the version from theJustice League Animated Serieswho has blonde hair as well as a beard. Right nowAquaman 2plot details are scarce but fans should be able to piece everything together during the upcoming DC Fandome event, where trailers and new footage will be shown for many of the upcoming DC properties. This virtual event includes shows, movies, video games, and comics. Precisely what will be unveiled aboutAquaman 2remains a mystery, but it will certainly make a splash.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Amber Heard are expected to return to their roles for the sequel as Black Manta and Mera, respectively. Alongside them, Jason Momoa (Aquaman) and Wilson will be returning as the iconic conflicting brother duo from the DC comics. Wilson and Wan have worked together numerous times before, as Wan is known for directingtheConjuringmoviesin which Wilson stars as Ed Warren, a paranormal investigator and author. He and his wife Lorraine have investigated many paranormal occurrences and keep a museum of the artifacts they’ve encountered locked away.

Wan’s influence from his horror background can be seen in spurts during the firstAquamanfilm. There was the trench scene that had a few minor jump scares and there also was the element of mystery when discovering Atlantis. The deeper the characters traveled in the ocean, the darker it got, especially whenAquamanhad to battle the Karathen, which was a giant sentient sea creature that hid in the dark depths of the ocean.

Fans appear to be loving the grittiness of DC films, especially with the reception towardsThe Suicide Squadmovie. So it looks like that will continue, especially if Ocean Master’s new look is anything to go by.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdomis slated for theaters on December 16th, 2022.
