Savathun, The Witch Queen, is coming back toDestiny 2after a year-long absence. Considering howDestiny 2The Witch Queen expansion endedthis wasn’t a surprise, but the timing of it steers the game’s story into an exciting direction.

Savathun is one of the three Hive Gods inDestiny 2,who, for a long time, was considered to be one of the biggest antagonists in the game before The Witness was introduced. Last year’sDestiny 2Witch Queen DLC saw Savathun tricking the Travelerinto giving her Light powers through which she became almost unstoppable. Thankfully, the Guardians managed to stop her at the end of the campaign, but her Ghost managed to escape, leaving her body behind, which made it obvious that she will come back at some point. Now, with this week’s story mission in Season of the Deep, it was finally confirmed that The Witch Queen will come back soon.

As reported by Forbes, the weekly mission required players to free Ahsa from the clutches of Xivu Arath on Titan. Shortly after that, Ahsa managed to speak through Sloane where they revealed that The Witch Queen, Savathun, will need to come back if the Guardians are to defeat The Witness. Right now, the body of Savathun lies with the Vanguard where Eris Morn is experimenting on it. However, Savathun’s Ghost, Immaru, is still nowhere to be found, so there will likely be a season-long effort to bring her back. Consequently, Savathun’s resurgence could have massive implications on next year’sDestiny 2The Final Shape DLC.

Last week’s campaign mission explained theorigins of The Witness inDestiny 2and revealed their endgame. Even after finally understanding the enemy, The Witness remains out of the Guardians’ reach and any efforts to follow them through the Veil have failed. Since the Guardians are out of ideas, Ahsa’s suggestion of resurrecting Savathun seems like an idea worth considering to Commander Zavala, despite the pushback from Lord Saladin and Saint 14.

On the contrary, it is also a very dangerous idea considering Savathun managed to trick the Guardians for a long time by posing as Osiris. She is an expert in deception and there is no way Guardians can fully trust her to side with them in the battle to come. Nevertheless, since her arrival inDestiny 2is imminent, it is likely that she will join forces with the Guardians against The Witness and will possibly help them figure out a way to interact with The Veil as well.

Destiny 2is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
