Many believe thatOutriderscan be the next big sci-fi franchise, likeDestinyorMass Effect. The scope in the trailer shows the possibility of that, although it could end up being that Outriders is a more focused experience without quite the scope of the aforementioned sci-fi experiences.

Outridersis a co-op RPG shooter that is played with up to three people. The original setting is sci-fi in nature, but also leans towards a dark and desolate theme. Players create their own Outrider to travel to a hostile planet as theuniverse is being affected by the Anomaly.

Outriderswill take about 40 hours to beat, which is on the lighter side compared to some of the recent RPGs of its ilk. It could be fair to compare the game to something likeThe Outer Worldsin scope and length, although the story trailer that was just released could point to a bit more depth.

Some fans will be happy to learn thatOutriderswill come without microtransactions. Much of the video game world has relied on such transactions over the past few years, but People Can Fly’s online RPG will not use them. The game seems like it could end up being a tight and succinct experience, and the fact that co-op is a part of the title adds to its value.

Sometimes a game with a heavy emphasis on story doesn’t quite work with built-in co-op, as the shared experience takes away from the narrative. Games likeEA’sAnthemfell short thanks to a lack of focusin this area, along with other issues. One can hope that the intriguing game that isOutriderswill tell a genuinely interesting story, while managing to pull off a fun gameplay experience.

Outridersreleases Q4 2020 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
