Summary

Overwatch 2allows players to try out the new damage hero, Venture, from March 28 to March 31 before they release on Season 10. The drill-wielding DPS is well-received so far, with some players saying they’re fun to play, but not overpowered. Their brawler playstyle wasn’t apparent to someOverwatch 2players, as some of them tried to use the character for diving, only to find out that their Burrow skill was too slow for such high-octane play. Venture’s kit is well-rounded, with mobility and crowd control abilities and an ultimate that does massive damage. Their passive skill, Clobber, is an excellent tool to have in close-up fights too, and one could argue that it shouldn’t be exclusive to this hero.

TheOverwatch 2continues bringing big changes to the game each season.Season 9 overhauled the competitive system, made bullets significantly larger, increased hero health pools, and extended the healing over time passive to all characters. Apart from Venture’s release, Season 10 will see the following changes, according to a March 19 Developer Update:

Why Venture’s Clobber Passive Should be Shared With Other Heroes

Venture’s Clober passive ability lets them deal more quick melee damage compared to other heroes. For reference, all heroes deal 40 damage when hitting their melee.Overwatch 2hasn’t revealed the damage values ofVenture’s Clobber-powered hit just yet. However, players have immediately found that it’s much more effective at finishing off low-HP heroes than others. A lot of heroes have designs that would benefit from having a similar passive.

If there’s any hero that would be a perfect fit for a boosted quick melee passive, it’s Genji. He hits opponents with a dagger, after all. It would make sense for this to do more damage than Tracer’s pistol whip or Cassidy’s jab, for example. The same can be said about Roadhog’s melee, as he hits people with his sharp hook.

The Possible Issues With Boosted Melee Damage for Other Overwatch 2 Heroes

While a boosted melee attack fits Genji and Roadhog’s design, it’s understandable why they don’t have it at the moment.Overwatch 2’s designers constantly think about balance when creating and adjusting a character’s abilities, and giving those characters better melee damage could make it significantly easier for them to assassinate squishy heroes. The developer team has been taking steps tomitigate burst damage inOverwatch 2season 9, so such a change may not be in line with current goals.

However, there are still ways to make this concept work. Blizzard could make Genji players work towards a boosted melee attack by filling a gauge every time they do damage. It could also trigger for a limited time after Genji uses his dash. As for Roadhog, he could deal extra melee damage to those slowed by his trap or after he uses Take a Breather.Overwatch 2seems to be experimenting with existing melee attacks too, withZenyatta now knocking back enemies with his kick. Therefore, boosting the melee attacks of other characters like Genji and Roadhog is within the realm of possibility, perhaps when the meta becomes more fast-paced again.
