AsOverwatch 2servers have stabilized and bugs have gotten fixed, the community’s criticism has turned to the game’s lack of unlockable content. Though there are hundreds ofcosmetics withinOverwatch, almost all of them are locked behind a pay wall in the sequel. As a result, players have little to grind for afterOverwatch 2’s main battle pass is finished, with the bonus tiers' titles simply not being enough for most fans. With no traditional player levels to work on, either, gamers need something else to strive for - and the locked silhouette icons might just be the answer.

These gorgeous icons show a profile view of each heroes’ face, with the colors matching the heroes’ in-game design. While many love the look of these icons, the process to unlock them is currently a mystery, with theOverwatch 2community completely in the dark about what to do. Blizzard should consider sharing the unlock requirement soon, though, making these icons a proper reward to work toward for those with a fondness for a specific hero.

What Overwatch 2 Silhouette Icon Challenges Could Be Like

Currently,Overwatchhas an unused challenge section dubbed hero challenges. While these could theoretically only be used for when Battle Passes end and newer heroes need to be unlocked via an in-game task, the hero challenge section does not only exist forcharacters like Kiriko. It is present for all theOverwatchcharacters, suggesting that hero challenges will be added over time for every member of the roster.

While rewards likeOverwatchskins, emotes, highlight intros, and so on are all perfect contenders for hero challenges, so too are player icons. In fact, considering how much ofOverwatch 2’s monetizationrevolves around skins and other major cosmetics, player icons are one aspect that Blizzard could safely make unlockable without impacting the profits of the game. The silhouette icons in particular are the perfect starting point for hero challenges.

As for what the challenges to unlock the silhouette icons could be like,Blizzardshould make them hero specific. After all, there is one icon for each character, so asking players to do something as a hero to unlock their associated icon only makes sense. The simplest method would be a grindy playtime challenge, asking gamers to get 50 wins as Genji or play 100 games as the sword-wielding Shimada brother to get his silhouette for their profile.

Another option would be a bonus reward for those that collectOverwatch 2’s Trophies and achievements. Each character in the hero shooter has two Trophy tasks that have players complete a difficult objective using their abilities. One task grants players a Pixel spray, while another gives them an adorable, “Cute” variant of their hero to spray on structures. Perhaps the Silhouette icon could be unlocked by getting both of the sprays/Trophies unlocked, as this would show true mastery of a character. Currently, players get nothing for earning both of a hero’s Trophies and special sprays, so the icon would fit well as a final bonus. Considering that the achievement-related sprays promote good gameplay and encourage hero skill, tying the icon to them would not be a bad idea.

The silhouette icons could be unlocked by hitting a certain amount of hours played on a hero, completing an ability-focused hero challenge crafted specifically for the icon, and so on. Blizzard has a unique opportunity with these silhouette icons, as the community has shown interest in unlocking them. By attaching a grind or challenge to each, the studio could address one of the biggest complaintstheOverwatch 2communityhas: a lack of cosmetics to grind for.
