In a recent Twitter post, games industry leaker Midori claimed thatPersona 6was inspired by a rare version ofMonopolythat was based on the Japanese city of Yokohama. Toy manufacturer Takara Tomy sold the limited-edition YokohamaMonopolygame in late 2010 for 4,500 Yen, or around $28 in today’s money, and only 5,000 sets of this specific version were ever released. Midori’s claim suggests that Yokohama, which is located south of Japan’s capital, Tokyo, could be a potentialsetting forPersona 6.

Aside from revealing the supposed influence of the Yokohama version ofMonopolyonPersona 6, Midori said that the title carried the internal name of Edge. Midori has dropped other rumors regarding the franchise’s highly anticipated next game, with their recent leaks being theplaceholder logo forPersona 6, as well as the project’s codename, XRD768. Unannounced Atlus games typically follow the “XRDxxx” format, with the last three numbers indicating when a project started production. ConsideringPersona 3 Reloadreportedly had the codename XRD777, the lower value ofPersona 6’s rumored label indicates that it entered development before the remake forPersona 3.

Persona 6 Rumored Release Date

Midori also backed up another leaker’s claim that the nextPersonatitle would feature a high school setting, which all the other games in the series had. They also stated that it is possible forPersona 6to be revealed in June 2024, although they noted that it would be more likely for the game to be showed off during The Game Awards this December or alongside the official announcement of the Nintendo Switch 2. There are, however, rumors that suggest the game might be a temporary exclusive for the Sony PlayStation 5, which would dash any hopes for the latter appearance. The critically acclaimedPersona 5, considered to be one of the greatest RPG games of all time, was only available on the PS3 before later releasing on other platforms.

As for the release of Atlus' unannounced game, Midori previously said that they heardPersona 6could launch either in 2025 or 2026. Both Midori and the leaker who claimed thatPersona 6would stick to a high school setting, Head on the Block, have said that Atlus has been preparing to work on a full remake ofPersona 4and a remaster of thePersona 2duology.
