Following weeks of rumors and speculation, Sony finally confirmed the firstPlayStationState of Play event for 2022. However, those hoping for a comprehensive State of Play covering a variety of PlayStation games may have been disappointed to learn that it would focus on upcoming racing gameGran Turismo 7instead. But if aPlayStationpattern holds true, there may very well be a second State of Play - or some other kind of event - later this month.

This pattern was pointed out by Axios' Stephen Totilo. Totilo took to Twitter to point out that Sony hosted aRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart-focused State of Play event two weeks beforeReturnal’s release date. Then Sony hosted aHorizon Forbidden West-focused State of Play two weeks beforeRift Apartlaunched. And now Sony is hosting aGran Turismo 7State of Play on February 3, roughly two weeks beforeHorizon Forbidden West’s release date.

If this pattern means anything, and it’s not just coincidence, then it seems that another State of Play should be happening a couple weeks prior toGran Turismo 7’s release date. This would mean that the event, whatever form it may take, would happen sometime afterHorizon Forbidden Westlaunches on February 18but prior toGran Turismo 7on March 4.

Of course, it’s entirely possible that this PlayStation State of Play pattern is merely a coincidence, and so fans should keep their expectations in check. However, if a PlayStation State of Play does take place sometime betweenHorizon Forbidden WestandGran Turismo 7, then there are a few distinct possibilities that come to mind as to which games may be featured.

Perhaps the most obvious choice would be the PlayStation 5 console exclusive gameForspoken, as it already has a solid release date for May 24. However,Forspokenis a Square Enix gameand so far the pattern has focused on PlayStation-published titles that are pure PlayStation exclusives. This would potentially also rule out a game likeGhostwire: Tokyofrom Tango Gameworks and Bethesda, which is scheduled for release at some point this year for PC and PS5.

Assuming those games are ruled out, the only thing left really would beGod of War Ragnarok, another PlayStation exclusive that’s believed to be releasing at some point later this year. Sony hasn’t shown a lot ofGod of War Ragnarokjust yet, and if the game is truly going to release in 2022, then it would make sense to pull the curtain back on it sooner rather than later.

Even if this pattern is broken this month, PlayStation fans shouldn’t get too upset. There’s plenty to look forward to these next few months, including the launch ofHorizon Forbidden Westin a couple of weeks,Gran Turismo 7in March,Forspokenin May, and more.
