Summary
One highly skilled artist has recently taken to social media to share hisPokemonfusion art of Skarmory and Duskull. This was his second known attempt at combining the twoPokemonto date, with both being high-effort, memorable, and creepy in their own way.
Pokemonfusion art has been around for about as long as the beloved franchise itself. And while there’s no shortage of artists who like to dabble in this format, few boast the output that Ryan Cortez, AKA Reddit user rc1246, does. Fewer still are those who manage to apply their own style to such projects with as much consistency and flair as this self-taught artist, who has so far authoredPokemonfusion art combining Heracross and Ampharos, Golem and Porygon Z, Slugma and Solosis, and dozens of other creatures over the past half a decade.
Skarmory and Duskull Fusion Looks Even Creepier Than Duskull and Skarmory One
Cortez’s latest project saw him blend Skarmory and Duskull into a single pocket monster, which was actually his second known take on the idea to date. And while the artist’s original vision yielded aPokemondesign combining Duskull’s body with some of Skarmory’s most recognizable features, Cortez has now decided to do things the other way around. This yielded a result that somePokemonfans found even creepier than his first rendition of the concept, perhaps because sticking Duskull’s features on Skarmory produced a much bigger, more menacing creature than approaching the fusion from the opposite direction.
On a technical level, the new design is characterized by realistic shading, a simple but impactful color palette, and sharp, deliberate lines that Cortez is known for. His style tends to produce results that both unsettle and intrigue, as was the case with the artist’s take on adisturbingPokemonfusion of Dodrio and Ditto, Houndoom and Electrode, and many other works that he shared over the years.
No matter one’s preferences and artistic inclinations, it is a commonly held belief that art should evoke a response from the viewer. This newly completed Skarmory and Duskull fusion and Cortez’s other works certainly accomplish that goal. And though the artist often experiments with combining pocket monsters, that’s far from the only concept he explores. Some of his most memorable past endeavors includedimagining what Rayquaza would look like as a non-Legandary Pokemon, in addition to envisioning “true,” terrifying forms of innocent-looking creatures like Wiglett.
Cortez didn’t share how long his latest project took to complete. But as far as his current creative setup is concerned, the artist did reveal that the Skarmory and Duskull fusion was made entirely in Photoshop, with the actual drawing part being done on the Wacom Cintiq Pro tablet.
