Summary

A talentedPokemonfan recently dreamed up an Electric-type Vulpix variant to go along with their previous Ninetales redesign. The fox-like Vulpix was introduced in the originalPokemon Red and Bluegames as the 37th creature overall, with the ability to evolve into the majestic Ninetales when it is exposed to a Fire Stone. Both of these evolutions are modeled after the kitsune, a multi-tailed fox of Japanese lore with the ability to breathe fire - a fitting inspiration for apair of Fire-type Pokemon. Vulpix and Ninetales were later given alternate Alola region variants inPokemon Sun and Moonthat swapped out their usual Fire abilities with Ice.

Like many members of the originalPokemon Red and Bluelineup, Vulpix is very popular with old-school fans thanks to its cute appearance and powerful Fire attacks, not to mention its ability to evolve into the even stronger Ninetales whenever its Trainer desires. Over the years, fans have created impressive artwork of the Vulpix evolutionary branch, and have even devised other elemental variants of the mystical fox Pokemon. One such exampleenvisioned Vulpix and Ninetales as Poison types, replacing their fiery appearances with purple fur and toxic sludge.

Another creativePokemonfan recently took a different approach by designing an Electric-type Vulpix variant. Reddit user yzziB, who has previously created anElectric version of Ninetales, posted their rendering of its younger form on r/Pokemon. This cute take on the classic Vulpix sports dark grey fur with yellow lightning bolts on its paws, tails, and head. It also features piercing orange eyes that yzziB says give it an angrier, more rebellious appearance than Aloan Vulpix. Just like with Ninetales, yzziB also designed a shiny variant with blue lightning instead of yellow.

YzziB has drawn plenty of other impressivePokemonredesigns, including shiny versions ofScarlet and Violet’s knight-inspired Armarouge and Ceruledge and the motorcycle-like Cyclizar. They also designed a new Starter trio for ahypotheticalPokemon Legendssequel, consisting of new versions ofRuby and Sapphire’s Water-type Swampert, theX and YFire-type Delphox, andDiamond and Pearl’s Grass-type starter Torterra.

All of these greatPokemonredesigns can be seen on yzziB’s Reddit account, along with their latest pair of variants in the form of the Electric-type Vulpix and Ninetales. The former in particular is quite cute and conveys its alternate typing through its lightning bolt-like hair and the crackling energy forming from its paws. ThePokemonseries has always inspired creative artwork thanks to its ever-growing collection of fantastical creatures and alternate variants, and seeing what talented fans like yzziB create is as entertaining for many as playing the games themselves.
