Pokemon GOhas removed the phrases “stepping outside” and “Getting up and GO!” from its Twitter bio. This change comes a few days after aman in Italy was cited for playing the game in public, which defied Italy’s quarantine. It is possible that they made this change to prevent more situations like that from happening. By changing the phrasing on their Twitter bio,Pokemon GOis sending a message that even a small action is necessary for protecting the public.
Anytime thePokemon GOapp is opened, various messages pop up warning players not to enter dangerous areas, trespass, or drive while playing.Pokemon GOcould benefit by placing messages encouraging safe practices such as self-isolating, washing hands, and being aware of symptoms. However, sincePokemon GOis played all over the world, a universal message would not fit all regions.
Changing mechanics has made it possible to play at home, butPokemon GOis trying to go even further to enable players to have the same experiences as playing the game normally.
