Pokemon GOhas changed its gameplaysomewhat since its release due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, for the most part, the game still intends for players to get outside and get some fresh air, and that’s where the trouble began for this streamer.

Anthony, the streamer in question, wasplayingPokemon GOwhile simultaneously broadcasting to an audience via Twitch. What started out as a normal day catching Pokemon quickly turned sour and scary for this streamer, though. While the streamer was only broadcasting their screen, rather than their face through their phone’s camera, the audio of the real world around them is clearly audible as the attack begins.
The 23-year-old streamer was actively working towards catching a Croagunk when the robbery began. He can be heard verbally recoiling from reportedly four assailants, who proceed to snatch the player’s phone, keys, and vape, based on audio heard later in the recording. While the streamer seems to have been successful in locking his phone before the assailants got a hold of it, it didn’t end particularly well for him, as the stream continues after the muggers run off with his property, even discussing using his keys tosteal the gamer’s car.
WhilePokemon GOoffers players an opportunity to get outside and get some exercise, it unfortunately also carries certain risks. The game always reminds players to remain aware of their surroundings, but unfortunately, there have still been numerous reports of players like this one experiencingassault linked toPokemon GO, losing their property, or otherwise experiencing problems due to being fixated on their phones rather than the world around them while playing.
Unfortunately, players who have been content to enjoyPokemon GOfrom home are likely finding it more difficult to remain sheltered inside these days. The game recently had some of itsCOVID-19-induced bonusesremoved, making it more difficult to progress in the game without heading outside and walking around. While chances are that only a tiny fraction of the millions of activePokemon GOplayers have experienced crime while playing the game, it should serve as a reminder to remain aware and cautious while outside, when playing the game or otherwise.
