In its initial announcement, the developer promised thatNexomon: Extinctionwould come to the Nintendo Switchin 2020. In a recent announcement,Nexomon: Extinctionwill release this summer. However, thePokemon-like is not only coming to the Switch, but it is also coming to the PS4, Xbox One and Steam. Marketing material forExtinctionclaims the game will have a colorful cast and over 300 Nexomon to catch. The game’s publisher, PQube Games also revealed a new trailer to accompany the announcement. This teaser shows off gameplay for catching and taming new Nexomon. It also promises a “new story” for players. According to the blurb onNexomon: Extinction’s Steam page, players and their Nexomon will be pitted against Tyrant Nexomon seeking control over both humans and monsters.
Responses to the trailer were largely positive. Several commenters complimented the game’s animation. Others stated that they were glad that Vewo had changed the UI forExtinction, since the mobile UI in the first game’s Steam release was “clumsy.” Although many noted the similarities toPokemon, fans are hopeful that competition will encourage Nintendo tochange up the mainlinePokemongamesand draw in new players with fresh gameplay. As opposed to the nefarious teams that trainers face inPokemon,Nexomon’s nemesis are evil monsters. Even changing up the enemies provides a new take onPokemon’s usual plots.
Hopefully,Nexomon: Extinctionwill encourage creativity from developers and fans alike. By promising “a return to classic monster catching games,” Vewo might be catering to both newcomers andPokemonveterans who aredissatisfied with the latest games. While this new trailer is brief, fans of all generations might find something to catch their interest.
Nexomon: Extinctionwill be available in Summer 2020 for the Nintendo Switch, PS4, Steam and Xbox One.
