Players ofPokemon Scarlet and Violethave pointed out that the latest games in the world-famous franchise continue to feature a non-adjustable difficulty which many argue is far too easy and unrealistic, partly thanks to NPC trainers and even Gym Leaders using only a couple of Pokemon rather than a full team. Many games in thePokemonseries have been criticized for their lack of challenge, and it would appear that the newPokemon Scarlet and Violetgames aren’t much different in this regard.

While it’s certainly true thatPokemon Scarlet and Violetare making huge strideswhen it comes to exploring new gameplay features, the developers are also being quite careful in retaining many of thePokemonseries' traditional qualities too. Striking the right balance between old and new is never easy, and althoughScarlet and Violetallow trainers to set off on their own adventures in a much more open world environment this time around, many original gameplay features such as team size limits and switch-in battle modes still persist. Perhaps most notably is the game’s simplistic and predictable difficulty, which some fans believe to be a major downside to the gameplay experience.

Many players haven’t hesitated to voice theircomplaints regarding the latestPokemongamesacross social media, calling out the hefty performance issues and abundant glitches in the Generation 9 titles. Lots of players have their own ideas of how the games could be better, but some complaints regarding the games' difficulty have gained a significant amount of traction within the community. Some players claim thatScarlet and Violeteven go a step further in simplifying, complaining that there’s now a much greater percentage of enemy trainers in the wild that have as few as one Pokemon, oftentimes being a weak one at that. Perhaps the bigger issue is that even the games' Gym Leaders, allegedly some of the strongest Pokemon users in all of Paldea, are guilty of having underpowered teams consisting of just three Pokemon in some cases.

Many players claim that this trend of non-challenging opponents is what’s detracting the most from the newer titles, even more so than the bugs and graphical issues seen in the Paldea region. Whilethere aren’t strictly any difficulty settings in mostPokemontitles, fans have taken it upon themselves over the years to develop their own challenges and game modes with the intention of creating a more difficult and rewarding experience.

While many fans continue toexpress their upset over the poor quality ofPokemon Scarlet and Violetupon release, with some even going as far as opting for refunds, many players are adamant that the franchise has even bigger problems to tackle when it comes to gameplay. The Pokemon Company still hasn’t released any statement regarding the widespread complaints regarding the new games, prompting many to lose hope in seeing any patches forScarlet and Violet.
