Depending on which version players have, they either deal with Team Magma wishing to expand Hoenn’s landmass or Team Aqua wanting to expand the water. After waking up the legendary creature using the appropriate Orb, the weather goes haywire in Hoenn. The only way for players to stop it is to defeat or capture the respective Legendary Pokemon. After saving Hoenn, players also gain the ability to catch Rayquaza.
The story told through Groudon and Kyogre has links to real-world environmental events, and it was retold in theremakesOmega RubyandAlpha Sapphire. Many fans have noted the similarities betweenRuby and Sapphire’s plot and Japan’s Isahaya Bay Reclamation Project.
