Back in March of 2019, theIron Man VRgame was announced in Sony’s first State of Play stream, highlighting the exciting concept of flying around as Iron Man on PlayStation VR. The game was scheduled to launch in late 2019 according tothe announcement trailer, but has been hit with delays for different reasons. However, the official PlayStation Twitter confirmed a release date of July 3rd, 2020.
WhenIron Man VRwas first announced, there were high expectations for a superhero game that uses the PlayStation Move controllers. Based on the developer’s high standards,the game was hit with a delayin January. The game’s developer, Camouflaj, issued a statement asking for patience and understanding while the game was being perfected.

Amid the first delay, excitement for the game dwindled due to the announcement ofa new Avengers game. Fans turned their attention toMarvel Avengers, which was also hit with delays and is expected to release September 4th. BothIron Man VRandMarvel Avengershave been pushed back due to the coronavirus. Sadly, both these games were in the middle of production when the virus started to affect work conditions. Both developers have had roadblocks, but have been vocal with the community with any delays.
SinceIron Man VRwill be releasing two months beforeMarvel Avengers, it will still receive a good amount of attention, and players are bound to start drawing comparisons whenMarvel Avengersis released. It will be interesting to see the final versions of Tony Stark and his suits in both games.
BothIron Man VRandMarvel Avengerswill feature several different Iron Man suits that can be unlocked, or purchased.Iron Man VRDeluxe Edition will feature four exclusive suits and pre-order purchases enable players to get four more additional suits, however, details on the deluxe edition and pre-order bonus have been scarce since the delays were announced. It is expected thatIron Man VRwill still have this content whenit is released on July 3rd.
Iron Man VRis one of the biggest games released on PlayStation VR, so there is a little pressure on Camouflaj to release the game before the PlayStation 5 takes over. Dealing with two delays is a giant setback, and at one point,Iron Man VRwas expected to be scrapped after being delayed indefinitely. Now, with a release date right around the corner, it appearsIron Man VRwill launch players into virtual skies soon.
