A surprising leak came through Wednesday morning about an unannouncedStar Warsgame. A PlayStation Network scraper bot that automatically posts new games added made a surprising reveal. “The game Maverick has been added to the european PSN!” read the message it posted, along with a single image. The image featured a logo forStar Wars: Project Maverick, with aStar Destroyer and several X-Wing spaceshipsin the background. As for whatProject Maverickmight be, it’s still a mystery.
Despite apparently being added to the EuropeanPlayStation Networkdatabase,Star Wars: Project Maverick’s profile is either still private or was pulled quickly. There’s simply no other official information about the game.

Since the reveal ofStar Wars: Project Maverick, however, some leaked information has been reported. Kotaku’s Jason Schreier confirmed thatStar Wars: Project Maverickis the same game as he’d recently reported on a retrospective on canceledStar Warsgames. In the report, Schreier says that EA has a newStar Warsgame in development at its young EA Motive studio in Montreal, Canada.Star Wars: Project Maverickis that game.
The only other information aboutEA Motive’sStar Warsproject that Kotaku reportedwas that it is a “smaller, more unusual project.” While it’s not much to go on, it does at least provide a good baseline for expectations. This isn’t aStar Wars: Battlefrontor aStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. This is a smaller project. It may even be a digital-only project.
A “smaller project” doesn’t help clarify the matter in the slightest, of course. Smaller projects are incredibly diverse, after all. Coming from EA, however, it would be surprising if the new game didn’t have some kind of online or “Games as a Service” component to it. At the very least, it’s confirmed for consoles, which implies a certain expectation of quality.
Kotaku’s report, put out in late February, confirmed that EA currently has two differentStar Warsgames in development.Star Wars: Project Maverickfrom EA Motive is one of these two games. The other one is said to be asequel toStar Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderat Respawn Entertainment. Given the lofty aspirations that EA had for theStar Warsfranchise some years ago, it’s a surprisingly limited array of titles. If both games are great, however, thenStar Warsfans can hardly ask for more.
Star Wars: Project Maverickis unofficially confirmed for PS4 and has no current release date.
