The past few years have seen the steady rise of horror video games in the mainstream gaming world. This phenomenon can be seen through the surprising popularity of indie titlePhasmophobia, and even thesuccessful launch of Capcom’sResident Evil Village. Now, gamers who are also fans of psychological-horror have another creepy title to look forward to with the indie gameLutoannounced for PlayStation platforms.
Lutois currently being developed by Broken Bird Games, a small independent game studio based in Spain, and will be published by Lanzadera. Not a lot of details about how the game plays has been shared by the devs. However, short video clips and in-game footage provide a sneak peek of gameplay that is highly reminiscent of the Playable Teaser of Hideo Kojima’s now defunctSilent Hillproject.

Recently, Broken Bird Games caught online attention in the PlayStation Espana’s YouTube channel.Luto’s teaser video was featured as part of the channel’s #PSTalents showcase, a PlayStation Espana initiative that aims to highlight local game dev talent. The footage shared focused onLuto’s first-person perspective, which is a view thatrecent popular horror games such asPhasmophobiaandRE Villagehave come to favor.
BothLuto’s concept and teaser trailer videos seem to set the game within a lived-in home, with no other human being in the immediate area other than the player. Voices over a radio talk about the themes of hell and depression as the camera pans through darkened hallways and rooms. GivenLuto’s eerie environment,fans who were able to play Kojima’s PTwill likely see the similarities between the two titles.
The team has also announced that the game will be available for PlayStation consoles, though no info has been confirmed on whether it will be launched for the PS4 or be part of thePS5’s roster of exclusive titles.Lutowill also be released on PC, however, no news about the game’s official launch date has been shared by the developers.
According to Broken Bird Games’s official Twitter,Lutowill explore feelings of losing loved ones, and the fear of darkness caused by anxiety and depression. Withmental health and illnesses as themesfor video games now becoming a trend,Lutomay provide a unique platform and perspective to help better understand those who are afflicted with such conditions. Nevertheless,Luto’s ominous vibe seems like it can offer a great haunting experience for horror fans who are willing to give the title a chance.
