The remake ofResident Evil 4is still wowing gamers, but some are certain that Capcom will release a modern reimagining of the fifth entry in its iconic survival horror series, and, if it happens, fans would like to seeRE4’s Merchant make a return. Whilenot all games require a remake or remaster, theResident Evilfranchise is managing to show the world that bringing back classic releases can be done in a very successful way.

While it’s not considered by many to be thebestResident Evilgame of all time,RE5is still pretty decent, with a current Metacritic score of 86 on PC. That’s not a failure by any stretch of the imagination and while the move towards more bombastic action did leave a sour taste in some people’s mouths, it still enjoys a following. In fact, there are those who would like to see the fifth installment get given the remake treatment.

As spotted by The Gamer, a post over on Reddit started by user Kitty_eh14 discusses the potential for the Merchant fromResident Evil 4to make a comeback in a remake ofRE5. They go on to say that they found it “boring” that the game itself only had a shop at the end of each chapter. Given thatVillageeven has its own merchant character in the guise of The Duke, having a trader for the player to interact with in order to buy and sell goods is something Capcom seems eager to revisit. User Iccarys suggested someone like Drebin fromMetal Gear Solid 4would be interesting, with a few other comments agreeing.

It’s not hard to see why some would want this character to return.Resident Evil 4’s Merchant is an important part of the game, although some do feel that he may be a bit chatty in the remake. He not only offers the chance for Leon to upgrade his weapons and purchase additional provisions, but he also acts as a kind of respite, giving players a bit of a breather between some of the more action-heavy sequences.

At the time of writing, there’s no way to know what Capcom has in store for its long-running flagship horror series. Suffice it to say, some would be interested in a remake ofResident Evil 5. The fact that it originally released in 2009 would lead a few to think that it might be too soon, but it would be interesting to see what the developer could do to modernize this more high-octaneREinstallment.

Resident Evil 4is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
