Resident Evil Villageis bringing backResident Evil 7protagonistEthan Winters, and one of the goals of the game is to further flesh out Ethan as a character. This time around, Winters will be attempting to save his daughter Rosemary, who has been kidnapped and taken to a mysterious rural European village. However, it doesn’t appear as though everything is as it seems, as Capcom has teased a big surprise for Ethan on his journey.
Resident Evil Villagedirector Morimasa Sato said as much in an interview with EDGE magazine. During the interview, Sato teased, “The biggest surprise you could possibly imagine awaits Ethan Winters in this story.” Of course, to avoid spoiling the surprise for fans, Sato stopped short of providing specifics. To find out what this big surprise is, fans will simply have to play throughResident Evil Villagewhen its release date rolls around in May.

The EDGE magazine article onResident Evil Villagerevealed some other interesting things about the survival-horror game. Evidently, some members of the development team wantedResident Evil Villageto be third-person instead of first-person. The argument they made was that it would allow for a “different kind of combat experience” when compared toResident Evil 7, but the decision was ultimately made tokeepRE7’s first-person viewpointas it allowed the developers to better express Ethan’s “fear and desperation.”
There should be plenty inResident Evil Villageto stress Ethan out and make his “fear and desperation” shine through. Sato said that fans shouldn’t underestimateResident Evil Village’s horror contentbased on what’s been shown of the game so far. Apparently, the scariest and most horrifying scenes inResident Evil Villageare being kept secret until the game’s launch.
With theResident Evil Villagerelease date so close, fans shouldn’t expect too many more deep dives into the game before launch. However, Capcom has said that a secondResident Evil Villagedemo is on the way, so fans should be able to expect that at some point between now and the game’s May 7 launch. Whether it’s a completely new demo or simply theMaiden demobeing ported to other platforms is unclear at the time of this writing, however.
More details on the nextResident Evil Villagedemoshould come to light in the weeks ahead. However,Resident Evilfans shouldn’t expect any hints about what this “big surprise” for Ethan Winters. They’ll have to play the game to find out.
