“I had no idea that Matt [Reeves] had seenGood Timeand thought, ‘I want to do a really dirty, dirty, slimy Batman,'" Pattinson shared during an interview with MovieMaker. Reeves also contributed his thoughts in the same conversation, adding that it felt right moving forward with Pattinson in the lead role. “It was a kind of almost fated thing. Of course, at that point, we were still working on the script. And so there was nothing to share. But I met with him probably about eight months later, and I shared the script, and we just really connected.”
Pattinson’s comments come not long after hespoke about Batman’s methodologyand how his version of the character is fighting the urge to kill. As he said to Premiere, Batman’s rule against killing can be interpreted in two ways. The first is that he only wants to punish adversaries appropriately. However, it could be also be said that Batman actually wants to kill his enemies and only stops himself thanks to his self-control.
In addition to what Pattinson revealed about the character, Reeves also recently shared that thisBatman is heavily influenced by Kurt Cobainand the ’90s grunge scene due to the director wanting to explore a more recluse Bruce Wayne rather than the playboy billionaire fans are accustomed to seeing in previous adaptations. And the way every trailer has resonated positively with fans, it seems Reeves' more brutal vision of the DC hero is paying off.
The Batmanwill focus heavily on a noir-driven, detective story as the filmwill take place in Bruce Wayne’s second year of fighting crime. The film also starsPaul Dano as The Riddler, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle / Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, John Turturro as Carmine Falcone, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Peter Sarsgaard as district attorney Gil Colson.
The Batmanis set to release in theaters on March 4th, 2022.
