Since the last generation of consoles, the gaming market has seen a swath of remakes, remasters, and collections put out to scratch that nostalgia itch many players have. Among the more popular collections out isHalo: The Master Chief Collection, which remains an active title on Xbox platforms thanks to the suite of campaigns and multiplayer options available to players. However, if a new insider report turns out to be true, another Xbox franchise will be getting similar remaster treatment within the near future.
Halo: The Master Chief Collectionoriginally released in November 2014 for Xbox One, teeing up the release ofHalo 5: Guardiansa year later. The collection originally included the full campaigns forHalo: Combat Evolved Anniversary,Halo 2 Anniversary,Halo 3, andHalo 4, along with a large multiplayer suite featuringg several original and remastered maps and modes. Other games likeHalo 3: ODSTandHalo: Reachwould be added in later updates to fill out the collection to include nearly all FPSHalotitles.

No other Xbox-exclusive series has been given this treatment up to this point, but XboxEra podcast host Shepshal Nick says that will change in 2022. Nick said on the latest episode, via PureXbox, he had spoken with someone at Xbox who confirmed another collection is on the way and would be releasing sometime in either 2022 or 2023. However, he was not told which Xbox series would be getting theMaster Chief Collection-treatment.
Many players first guess is likely to be theGears of Warseries, which wouldn’t be the first time a series collection has been rumored. It can be argued the series is the second- or third-most recognized Xbox series, depending on how some players may viewForza, and has a game released on every Xbox console since the first game on Xbox 360. It also makes sense if Xbox is working onGears 6and is looking for something to placate players until it is released.
Another option is theFableseries, which has not seen a mainline entry released since 2010’sFable 3on Xbox 360. AnewFablegamewas announced at the Xbox Games Showcase in July 2020, though little else has been said about the game since. Players can argue a series collection would be a smart way to build up to the new game’s release by re-familiarizing players with the series.
There’s also a chance Xbox may look at its more recent acquisitions, namely Bethesda andActivision Blizzard, for a series worthy of theMaster Chief Collection-treatment.
