This processor provides high performance with its 14 cores, 24 MB L3 cache, and a 5.4 GHz turbo clock.
TheAlienware X16 R1 Gaming Laptopis an excellent PC on wheels that packs an impressive 16' screen with a 2K resolution and an impressive refresh rate of 240Hz, throwing in an equally powerful Core i9 CPU and an RTX 4080 GPU into the mix bundled with 32GB of LPDDR5 memory to keep things humming. It is also offered up at an impressively high discount compared to its MSRP, taking over $500 off as part of the Prime Day Sale.
Our Take:As the most expensive gaming laptop we covered during the Prime Day Sale, the X16 does not disappoint, sticking to a higher resolution and refresh rate compared to the competition with hardware to back it, making it a bargain to be had this summer holiday. Amazon’s discount simply makes an excellent case to pick up an excellent gaming laptop that can double as a desktop replacement any day of the week at a price that makes it an easier splurge than it previously was.
Acer Nitro 17 Gaming Laptop AN17-41-R7G3
The Acer Nitro 17 Gaming Laptop is a large 17-inch gaming laptop powered by an efficient, but potent octa-core AMD Ryzen 7 CPU and Nvidia’s mid-range RTX 4060 GPU. The display features Quad HD resolution and a high 165 Hz refresh rate for fast-paced gaming. That is all topped up with a large 1TB SSD and 16 GB of DDR5 memory, making it an ideal desktop replacement for those looking to grab one.
With an impressive QHD 165Hz, 17.3' display and a powerful but efficient octa-core Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU, theAcer Nitro 17 Gaming Laptop AN17-41-R7G3is an excellent desktop replacement with plenty of storage on offer thanks to the 1TB PCI-E SSD in play as well as Nvidia’s middle-of-the-road RTX 4060 GPU in play, making it one of the most well-rounded offerings you’re able to look for in the 17' class with a price tag that you can’t argue with.
With a significant price cut for Prime Day, it is a no-brainer pick if you are looking for a serious gaming laptop and are willing to get a higher resolution, albeit from a larger portable device that doubles as an excellent desktop replacement with a 15% discount during the shopping festival, making it one you should take a second look at if size matters - or if it does not.
Our Take:The Acer Nitro 17 Gaming Laptop has a decent GPU and an efficient 8-core CPU in tow but is slightly more expensive than the ASUS variant above that clocks in a little smaller at 16 inches. If the extra size helps and the extra 500GB of SSD storage is a factory, the Nitro 17 is a great piece of hardware to get the job done. Just remember: its size means it is more of a desktop replacement than the other laptops we compare it to.
Razer Blade 14 Gaming Laptop R9 RTX 3080TI
If you need more power under the hood while maintaining a strict limit for the maximum size your portable gaming machine can have, look no further than the Razer Blade 14 Gaming Laptop with a 6000 Series Ryzen 9 6900HX CPU, an RTX3080TI and DDR5 memory all in a neat, but pricey package.
TheRazer Blade 14 Gaming Laptopcomes with an 8 core Ryzen 9 6000 series CPU and a powerful RTX 3080Ti laptop GPU while keeping temperatures in check thanks to Razer’s next-gen vapor chamber. With connectivity accounted for thanks to Wi-Fi 6E support and plenty of USB ports in play, the Razer Blade 14 rounds off its offerings with DDR5 memory, making it a uniquely powerful gaming laptop for its form factor.
With a significant price cut for Prime Day marking the cheapest this Razer Blade 14 SKU has ever been, if you are looking for a powerful yet portable gaming laptop, Razer’s pricey 14 incher currently trades at $1200 off for a very capable gaming laptop even as it maintains its portability promise.
Our Take: While DDR5 memory is a nice touch, expect thermal limitations to kick in sooner for an RTX 3080TI laptop in a 14-inch form factor than others. While the Ryzen 9 runs cooler than its Intel counterparts, it does still happen to generate a certain amount of heat, which, while the Razer Blade 14 handles quite well, there are some user complaints about overheating issues as well as somewhat mixed reviews about customer service which makes us think twice about what is one of the more expensive purchases we recommend.
Unless you need the extra power under the hood, there are more well-rounded and proven performers that cost a fraction of Razer’s offerings in the same market which areviable alternatives, even if not on sale during Prime Day.
Acer Swift X SFX14-42G-R607 Creator Laptop
The Acer Swift X SFX14-42G-R607 Creator Laptop is a well-blended creator-centric laptop that offers decent productivity performance coupled with a discrete GPU from Nvidia housed in a portable 14-inch frame that belies its potential for both, work and play for a laptop in its weight class.
Update:This Invite-only Prime Day Deal has currently sold out but invites might open up in the next few hours, making it a good idea to keep an eye on the page if more stock shows up.
TheAcer Swift X Creator Laptophas been on sale since the beginning of Prime Day, and remains to date, the best deal we can find for a productivity-centric laptop that can game quite well at medium settings while using its 14-inch frame to its advantage.
With a $630 ask for an RTX 3050TI laptop with a decent 5000 series AMD Ryzen 7 processor and 16GB of memory coupled with 512G of storage, it is also a well-rounded offering with plenty of ports on offer along with excellent battery life all packed in a chassis that weighs just a shade above 3 Lb, making it a great companion for traveling with Acer offering a One-Year International Travelers Limited Warranty in tow.
Our Take:Unless you have a particular reason to go for a gaming laptop in particular that needs more power under the hood, the Acer Swift X Creator Laptop offers the best price-performance ratio under $700 for a productivity laptop that doubles as a capable gaming machine thanks to its internals. While you do need an invitation from Amazon to buy this one, if you are in the market for something in its price range, this is a deal we would wholeheartedly recommend with ease given how many boxes it ticks for both, gaming and work at the same time.
The Best Prime Day Deals For Gaming PCs
HP Victus 15L Gaming Desktop Bundle PC
With a 12th generation Core i3 processor, 8GB of DDR4 memory and 256GB of SSD storage, and a capable entry-level GTX 1660 Super GPU on offer, the HP Victus 15L Gaming Desktop Bundle PC is a balanced take on what a new entry-level gaming PC should look like - at a deep discount on Amazon Prime Day.
TheHP Victus 15L Gaming Desktop Bundle PCbrings a balanced entry-level gaming PC at an affordable cost offering a sleek package that doesn’t break the bank for those of us looking to step into the world of PC gaming or give someone a starter unit as a gift without getting into the hassle of building our own. With an entry-level 12th generation Core i3 processor that is comparable to its newer 13th generation sibling coupled with a capable GTX 1660 Super on offer with just enough memory and storage to hit the ground running.
Our Take:The HP Victus 15L Gaming Desktop Bundle PC is decent value for money and if you look to build something similar, you will come quite close to its Amazon Prime Day price. It does have the option to upgrade memory and storage as well as the GPU with the PSU offering additional power connectors that you may choose to use if needed, making it a solid, slightly upgradeable pick if you don’t want to get into building your own entry-level gaming PC.
ROG Strix G15 Gaming Desktop PC
The ROG Strix G15 Gaming Desktop PC is an excellent mid-range gaming PC powered by a capable 12th gen Intel Core i7 CPU and a mid-range RTX 3060 GPU with great looks on offer and a price tag that makes it a decent consideration to have, especially given the roomy 1TB PCI-E 4.0 SSD and 16GB of DDR4 memory on offer.
TheASUS ROG Strix G15 Gaming Desktopis a well-balanced gaming PC with an excellent Core i7 12th generation 12700F processor and a decent SSD and memory offering with an RTX 3060 GPU that has a great design and a handle if you want to carry it around in addition to a nifty side hook for your headset.
With decent air cooling which, however, can get loud quite fast, ASUS’s offering is one of the better gaming PCs you can purchase on Prime Day with it being marked down to a sub $1k price tag, making it a great prebuilt option if you do not plan to build your own gaming PC currently.
Our Take:Given the relative disappointment the RTX 4060/4060TI lineup has been for gamers looking for a more significant upgrade and the fact that ASUS’s offering comes with a capable 12th generation Core i7 processor and a sleek design that will save you time in terms of putting it together, buying the G15 when the sum of its parts comes close to its discounted price just might be a smart decision compared to spending time building a PC from the scratch - more so if you are inexperienced at that sort of thing.
Should you buy a Gaming PC or Laptop on Prime Day?
We examined some of the best Gaming Laptop and Gaming PC deals available on Prime Day and highlighted the ones we liked above. Normally, looking at a product on sale and determining if it is a great deal is an easy affair: you look at price history if available, you examine how closely it meets your needs and then make an isolated purchase.
On events like Prime Day, this gets a bit more complicated thanks to the sheer amount of products available for you to look at and decide from, making for very challenging selection criteria at times. However, having some ground rules in play does help you secure a good bargain while avoiding some of the “bad” bargains that often have some of the highest discount percentages associated with them to the point that they could be misleading:
Aim For The Latest In Tech: It is always tempting to grab bargains from yesteryear especially when it comes to laptops where there are bargains to be had on SKUs that are often 3 years or more old since they first showed up in a particular configuration in the market. This is because vendors are liquidating stock and often doing so at throw-away prices for tech. There is a catch: some of these will have dated GPUs, be bulkier and less power efficient than their newer counterparts, and might have batteries that will deteriorate faster than their newer siblings if you are looking at the portable end.
Older components mean relatively limited or slower driver support and optimization down the line for you as a gamer or a productivity professional which does make a significant difference at times if you have the latest hardware under the hood.
One Size Does Not Fit All:Just because it is a great bargain doesn’t mean that you should get a 17-inch gaming laptop or a full desktop when your needs revolve around something a lot more portable. At the end of the day buying something simply because it is a good bargain when it does not cater to your needs can prove to be frustrating or result in a prolonged return process because you did not do your research well into what you were buying.
This can happen in events such as Prime Day when you feel the onus to move quickly to secure bargains. It can however result in you buying something that isn’t the right fit for you. It could be the wrong size compared to what you know you are comfortable with, it could be more or less powerful than what you need or expect and in some cases, it could be a completely unwanted purchase just made on an impulse.
Read The Reviews:Not all great deals are great products automatically. Some do have reviewers pointing out flaws in their design, customer service limitations as well as hardware limitations. Some reviews can have clever workarounds or alternate suggestions that could work in your favor too as an end-user or simply help you make a more informed purchase.
That being said, Prime Day does happen to offer some of the best deals for Gaming hardware in general, and we are particularly impressed with the price points that some of the newer RTX 4000 series-enabled gaming laptops compete at on sale. If you are in the market to buy an RTX 4000 series-based gaming laptop or a bargain sporting an RTX 3000 series GPU in tow, Prime Day is probably the best time to look for an upgrade until Black Friday, making it an event you do not want to miss - especially when we have already laid out some of the best choices in the business above.
