Skyrimmods have been changing the gameplay, story, and more for the fifthElder Scrollstitle since it first released back in 2011. Since then, modders have only become more ambitious, with some even looking to create DLC-sized additions such as oneSkyrimmod that addsMorrowindcontent. WithSkyrimremaining a popular title for both players and modders, the game will likely only see more big changes coming its way until the release ofThe Elder Scrolls 6.

One such change coming toSkyrimis a mod that adds the Nemesis System to the game, albeit with a few changes. The Nemesis System will be familiar to fans of theMiddle Earth: Shadow of MordorandShadow of Wargames, and it will likely appear in some form in Monolith’supcomingWonder Womangametoo. In essence, the Nemesis System turns what could’ve been standard enemies into unique NPCs worthy of a player calling them a nemesis.

First, the mod will not have a pool of previously generated enemies like the Uruk captains and chieftains fromShadow of War. Instead,Skyrim’sNemesis System mod will only create a unique enemy for the player should they be killed while adventuring. Following the Dragonborn’s defeat, the enemy that killed them will be given a unique name, increased stats, and a special buff. The modder uses the example of a “shield-breaker” buff on an enemy that uses warhammers, but there are plenty of other special abilities that could be given as well.

Not only does thisSkyrimmod create interesting enemies out of the NPCs that kill the player, but it gives them a quest to hunt down and defeat their nemesis as well, similar to the system inShadow of War. Defeating a nemesis will remove the debuff that can be placed on the player by the enemy that killed them. Using the “shield-breaker” example again, being defeated by this foe may mean that players won’t be able to useshields inSkyrimuntil that enemy is killed.

As with many otherSkyrimmods that change the way the game is played, the upcoming Nemesis System will allow for customization. This will mean that a player can determine how much of their gear is stolen by their nemesis upon death and which weapons and armor can be taken. The modder does recommend that anyone who is planning on installing theSkyrimNemesis System should be prepared to potentially lose their gear. However, the player’s weapons and armor can be retrieved by stealing from or killing their nemesis in-game.
