Sonic is the titular characterof the series and his key characteristic is that he is fast. The longer the series has gone on, the more friends Sonic has found that can also go fast. However, inSonic Superstars, Sonic is indeed the fastest character when running across stages on foot.
Players who want to maximize their playtimes should stick with this classic hero. It kind of seems sacrilegious to play as any character except Sonic, but the same could be said about Mario in any one of his adventures.
6The Advantages Of Amy
It may seem weird to play as anyone else besides Sonic, butAmy is an OP character inSonic Superstars. Knuckles and Tails can fly or more like glide in stages which can be useful. However, Amy can double jump which will bypass a lot of difficult platforming sections in levels.
For example, some stages may ask players to wait for platforms to lower and rise, but Amy doesn’t have to wait. Her double-jump comes in handy for boss battles too. So, while she may run slower than the others, the double jump makes up for that and then some.
5Don’t Worry About Collectibles
This might be an obvious tip, but players that just want to beat the level, or game overall as quickly as possible should just avoid collectibles. There are certainly a lot of collectibles that are going to help players in the long run suchas Chaos Emeralds. Obtaining all Chaos Emeralds can get Sonic and his friends the Super ability, which increases speed among other things.
Plus there are other useful abilities too like Ivy that can grow vines to climb. However, going after things like that is going to slow the player down as that adds to exploring. Rings are the only thing that players should at least attempt to get. They will keep heroes healthy, but by no means players should go out of their way to get them.
4Avoid Enemies
Dodging through enemies is not the easiest thing to do in aSonicgame. It’s a bit easier to go with the flow in a modern3DSonicgamebecause the titular hero can zoom at enemies while in the air. That ability is inSonic Superstarstechnically, but it is hidden behind the aforementioned Chaos Emeralds.
Players can still attempt to avoid getting into conflicts with enemies as much as possible. Like the rings, players shouldn’t go out of their way to attack enemies. They can destroy them if they are in the way and cannot be jumped over.
3Play Solo
This title is the firstSonicgame in the mainline series to offer a four-player co-op experience. It’s one of the best reasons to go out and buy the game because there is nothing cozier than teaming up with three friends or family members on the couch.
It’s a great time for four-player games on Switch, especially thanks to the release ofSuper Mario Bros. Wonder. However, playing with even one more player inSonic Superstarsis going to slow the momentum down. So, if speed is so important, don’t play with others.

TheSonicseries isn’t well-known for having classic power-ups akin to Super Mushrooms andFire Flowers like in theMariogames. There are returning items that can be considered power-ups such as Shield which will take one point of damage before disappearing. Of the many in the series and inSonic Superstarsin particular, Invincible is the best.
It acts like the Super Star in theMarioseries wherein the hero becomes temporarily invincible as the name would suggest. If it is ever spotted in a power-up box, players should go out of their way to get it. This goes against a lot of the previous advice, but this is the one item that is worth it.
1Buy The Game On PS5 Or Xbox Series X
The Switch is a great system, but it is showing its age at this point six years in. For players who want the absolute best performance fromSonic Superstars, they should get the game on either PS5 or Xbox Series X/S. After all, there is more to speed-running a game than just literally playing it.
Players have to take into consideration outside factors like their console choice. The load times are not great with the Switch edition and there is some slowdown in the frame rate, although the load times are the biggest problem overall. This final tip is thinking outside the box, but it is generally a good idea to think about.
