Willem Dafoe is already tied to one iconic superhero villain, Spider-Man’s Green Goblin, but that won’t stop the actor from wanting more, and in this piece of fan art he definitely looks the part as a potentialJoker.
Dafoe is currently back in the news thanks to yet another stellar performance inSpider-Man: No Way Home, nearly 20 years since he first suited up as Norman Osborn, arguably cementing his placeSpider-Man’sgreatest foe. However, in recent interviews has expressedhis admiration for Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayalof another crazed villain, and how he would like to tackle theJokerrole if he were ever given the chance.

For that reason, Portuguese artist Datrinti (@datrintiart) decided to give Dafoe the jester treatment the acting legend wants by dressing him up as the Joker in one of his more classic and refined iterations. In this glorious piece of fanart, Dafoe takes after a mixture of Joker’s older, less grungy and disheveled design. Plus, many of the aesthetics seen in games like theBatman Arkhamseriesand even hisMortal Kombat 11getup (cane and lapel flower) are included.
The result is certainly something that wouldn’t be out of place in the world Todd Phillips constructed for hisJokerfilm. It’s even possible to imagine this cleaner version of the Joker going up against Arthur Fleck as an “improved” impostor. Obviously, as the picture’s caption suggests, Datrinti is a fan of Dafoe’s, and he’s equally intrigued by what a Joker played by the actor would be like.
As of now, the Joker role appears to be vacant considering the DCEU appears to lack room for Zack Snyder’s integration of Jared Leto’s portrayal in the Knightmare; as well as Matt Reeves’The Batmanall but leaving the villain out of the film. That is unless one believesrumors stemming fromThe Batman’s Japanese trailerthat have some speculating whether there could already be a Joker in that particular version of Gotham.
Other artists have already come up with versions ofwhat a Jake Gyllenhaal Joker would look like, although most of these fan-made renders opt to go for a clean cut one instead of the worn down look donned by Heath Ledger in his unmatchable performance.
