While players can catch many fish inStardew Valleywith a regular fishing rod,Shrimprequire a slightly different approach. These little creatures are too agile and small to be caught on a hook, but are very valuable for cooking and making some clothing. Unfortunately, for some reason, most NPCs in the gaming world don’t like it, so giving it as a friendly or romantic gift is not the best decision. But you should still get a little for yourself.
The main way to get Shrimp inStardew Valleyis to use Crab Pots because, like crabs, driven by curiosity and the smell of bait, they swim into a trap without thinking about the consequences. However, even though this method is the simplest, it is not the only one. And we are going to tell you about all the intricacies of the shrimp business.
How To Catch Shrimps in Stardew Valley
To get Shrimps inStardew Valley, there are three main, reliable methods:
The first method of obtaining is the best in terms of efficiency and simplicity. All you have to do is place theCrab Potanywhere withsaltwaterand wait a bit. Of course, in addition to Shrimp, you can catch sea creatures such as Oysters, Mussels, Lobsters, and Crabs. But since Shrimp swim into the trap at any time of the year, you will have plenty of time to try.
Shrimp cannot be caught by Crab Pots that are placed infreshwater
As for creating a Crab Pot, you only need to reach Fishing Level 3, after which you can buy it from Willy’s Fish Shop for 1,500g or craft it using the following materials:
The second method is much simpler but more expensive. Checking the Traveling Cart is a good solution if you only need a few Shrimps. They can randomly be among the stock at the Cart, ranging in price from 180 - 1,000g, which is not that high price if you are rushing. But if you need more Shrimp that can reliably be purchased from random stocks, use the first method or go straight to the third.
The third method is to breed Shrimp in aFish Pond. Since this creature is a fish, you only need to place one of them in the Fish Pond and wait two days before they give birth. The starting Fish Pond only holds three fish, so we recommend upgrading it as quickly as possible for more efficient farming.
A less reliable, though techincally possible method for obtaining Shrimp, is reaching high friendship with a pet cat. Cats who like their farmer companions can gift certain items, and Shrimp are in the possible gift item pool.
How To Use Shrimps in Stardew Valley
Like other fish, you won’t be able to eat Shrimps right after you catch them. Additionally, these creatures are not the best gift for any NPC (everyone either hates, dislikes, or is neutral to them as gifts). But you can still use them in the following ways:
