Starfieldfans want to see survival mode be available from launch. WhileStarfielddoes seem to be unlike a lot of Bethesda’s other RPGs with its sci-fi setting and ambitious scope, a lot of fans are hoping that their favorite elements from the company’s previous RPGs will be making an appearance. As of the time of writing,Starfield’sbiggest reveal was at the June 2021 Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase, which gave fans around 15 minutes of gameplay along with a short speech from Todd Howard about other features coming to the game.
Howard confirmed thatStarfieldwould have over 1000 unique planetsto explore, something that proved to be both an exciting and concerning figure for fans. While there are plenty of gamers who would love to explore a vast galaxy, there are also those who would rather have a handful of planets that are given an immense level of detail. Besides its incredibly ambitious scale, not much has been revealed in terms ofStarfield’sgameplay features, but there are plenty of additions fans are hoping for including a dedicated Survival Mode.

Survival Mode is available inFallout 4and was introduced toSkyrimofficially as part of the release of theAnniversary Edition. Unlike the regular experience of Bethesda RPGs, Survival Mode gives a much grittier style of gameplay, where the environment can be just as deadly as a Deathclaw or a dragon. On Reddit, user DreadnoughtWage posted about how they’d want to see the gameplay mode in the launch ofStarfield.
A lot of fans agreed with the sentiment of DreadnoughtWage, as they believe thatStarfield’sSurvival Mode could make space seem a much more dangerous place to explore, giving an extra challenge to those who want it. Something else fans wanted in the comments of DreadnoughtWage’s Reddit post was a customizable difficulty setting, which would allow for certain Survival Mode features to be enabled such as a reliance on food to keep a player’s character alive while leaving out other mechanics.
Survival Mode is not exclusive to Bethesda games, and plenty of other titles such asDays GoneandReturnalhave given players a more realistic experience. Plenty of other recent releases have also looked at custom difficulty settings, withPhasmophobiaadding it in a recent update. Hopefully, if Bethesda does look at including these difficulty options, they will create the immersive experience fans hope for without making its many planets completely uninhabitable.
