Summary

While there’s plenty of details that either doesn’t share or explain well, one fan takes the time to reveal what the different star colors mean when viewing the map. Following a similar path to Bethesda’s other sprawling RPG style games likeFalloutorThe Elder Scrolls,Starfieldis a massive gamethat has tons of mechanics and features that players will likely come to learn the more time they spend in the universe.

There has been plenty of discussion around the user of immersion inside ofStarfield, with many praising the ability to create their own character and ships, to others being surprised at how the robot companion Vasco is able to say a large number of names, instead of simply referring to the player as a generic title like Captain or some other codename. One area ofStarfieldthat has seemingly left fans divided is the Star Map, which many have called overly vague and generally unhelpful due to a lack of critical information.

However, one player on theStarfieldsubReddit is attempting to alleviate a portion of that confusion by sharing a handy tip for deciphering the numerous star colors that appear. After hitting level 34, the user named raging_pastafarian discovered that glowing stars appearing with a halo indicate places that have been previously visited. For stars that are not glowing or have a halo, they’re currently unvisited but can be jumped to when in range. Players seeing a red star without any sort of glow indicates that it can’t be jumped to until the player jumps to another nearby star first.

The user included a map for visual reference as well, something fans in the thread clearly appreciated. While there were plenty who were surprised at the discovery, others took the opportunity to share their own small little revelations through playing. One user named senna98 found that simply holding the start button on a controller instantlybrings up theStarfieldmap, while holding up on the d-pad gives a ship module all available power. TigerTora provided a massive list of discoveries, which set off plenty of comments as well.

While fans continue to debate the level of immersion inStarfield, others have run into surprising and hilarious ways in which the game has broken it. During conversations with NPC characters, manyStarfieldplayers have run into situations where random characters may suddenly peek into the frame, abug makes aStarfieldNPC sink into a wall mid sentence, and plenty of other ways that have left people surprised.
