It’s great when a service tells its users what to do next based on their previous usage, like how Netflix gives users suggestions on what to watch next based on what they’ve already watched. Now, Steam has added something similar that will help gamers with huge libraries on deciding what they should play next. For those who are stuck browsing through their vastSteamlibraries and have no idea on what to play next,Steam will help themwith the new “Play Next” feature. No longer do players have to sift through their entire game libraries to look for the perfect game to play, as Steam will do it for them.
This feature is similar to the Steam Store recommendations feature; however, instead of telling people what to buy next, Play Next tells them what to play next based on the games they’ve recently played. It will pick three games from users' libraries, and users will have the ability to refresh the suggestions and get three new picks. However, the number of suggestions a user gets depends on the size of their game library. Right now, the recommendations can be a bit odd, especially if users have a smaller game library. It uses a new algorithm thatValve has been working onfor a while, which is supposed to get better with time, but at the moment, it’s kind of hit and miss.

In arecent blog post announcement, the company had the following to say, “Our machine learning system helps you to choose, by suggesting the games it thinks you’ll enjoy most, among games you already own.” It added, “Up to three selections are shown at a time. If the first set doesn’t quite grab your attention, you can cycle through to see other suggestions when available. To help you see at a glance what kind of game each of our suggestions is, we include a micro trailer (on hover), and the top tags for the game. If you’ve already played some comparable games, we show some of those too.”
The suggestions can be a bit out of place at times, but after a while, it does learn what users actually like and make suggestions based on that data. A huge library can be overwhelming for many, but this new feature will make sure that people have an easier time choosing the next game to play. The Play Next feature is not available in the Steam client on PC; instead, people will have to log into the Steam website and head over to the Play Next page to see the game recommendations for themselves. Those who have a smaller library of games can check out Steam’scurrent salesto beef up their game collection for better recommendations.
