Matthew Romance And Gift Guide In Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
Matthew can be one of the more challenging NPCs to romance as he doesn’t accept gifts as readily as other characters, preferring only certain types. He is also quite shy and gets easily embarrassed. However, it is possible to build a friendship and romance with Matthew with time and care about what players gift and say to him.Players need at least 8 heart levels for a successful marriage proposal with Matthew and will need to trigger all of his heart events.
Players can checkMatthew’s affection levelsin the resident info tab or by checking his diary next to his bed downstairs in Vesta’s farmhouse shop.
Matthew’s Daily Schedule
As Vesta’s brother, Matthew often spends most of his day helping out on her farm, so he wakes up early at about 6 am. If not working in the fields, he is usually inside one of the farm shop buildings. However, during afternoons at approximately 1:30 pm, Matthew exits the farm for a walk by the river opposite the farm. He walks back and forwards across the bridge before heading to the café at about 6 pm. He returns to the farm home at 8 pm and goes to bed around 9:30 pm.

Some romanceable NPCs accept a variety ofStory of Seasons: A Wonderful Life’s gifts. However, Matthew is one of the more tricky NPCs to give gifts to, as he isn’t interested in wildflowers or trinkets from the mine. However, thebest gifts for Matthewincludecooked dishes, such as milky soup. He is also impressed byfruitsorvegetablesgrown on the player’s farm, such as asking for a taste if players show him a tomato. Be warned - he may give some prickly feedback if it’s not up to his standards.

Matthew’s Heart Events And Marriage Timeline in Story Of Seasons: A Wonderful Life
Players first meet Matthew during a cutscene when approaching Vesta’s farm, making for quite an awkward introduction. Afterward, players can give Matthew gifts to raise his affection level and trigger his heart events.Matthew has 5 heart events and players need to trigger them allfor a successful marriage proposal via the blue feather.
Matthew 2 Heart Event
Enter Vesta’s farmhouse shop to trigger a2-heart eventwith Matthew. Giving Matthew a compliment embarrasses him, but he is still thankful, and the cut scene event helps raise his affection levels.
Matthew 4 Heart Events
Players can triggera couple of 4 heart eventsupon leaving Vesta’s farm shop and the nearby farm storage room. Upon leaving the storage room, a cut scene happens with Matthew standing near the fields. He initially becomes angry and then expresses his concern for Cecelia, who he seems to have a crush on.
When players leave the farm shop another time, a4-heart eventtriggers with Matthew pondering something in the fields. Encourage him to open up and show sympathy to grow his affection and receive a gift. Players can also take the opportunity to grow Matthew’s affection by choosing him fora date at the Fireworks Festivalduring day 2 of Summer.

Matthew 6 And 8 Heart Events
Reach 6 hearts with Matthew and approach Vesta’s farm to trigger a6-heart event with Matthewand Cecelia by the river. Cecelia leaves the player to talk with Matthew. He reveals although he doesn’t like talking to people much, he enjoys the player’s company.
When Matthew has 8 hearts of affection, players can trigger an8-heart eventnear the windmills at Vesta’s farm. Matthew will try to get players to leave after revealing more information about his past, but will eventually thank the player.
Matthew’s Marriage Proposal And Wedding Event
After reaching 8 hearts with Matthew, players can offer him the blue feather, triggering a marriage proposal scene by the river, followed by a scene of Matthew and the player walking around the village helping different residents. Towards the end of year 1, Matthew moves into the player’s farm and, shortly after, a wedding in the Forest by the Goddess Pond. Players then see theirStory of Seasons: A Wonderful Lifechildwith Matthew at the start of Chapter 2.
However, if players wait until the end of the year to decide who to marry, they won’t be able to marry Matthew if his affection level isn’t high enough.
