Not unlike Robert Pattinson’s Bruce Wayne,The Batman Part 2has been met with one challenge after another. Hopefully, this latest hurdle is the last that Matt Reeves and the crew will face for a smooth production towards crafting what could be the greatest Batman film of all time, following its revolutionary take on the character in the first film. The Batmanwas no stranger to its own problems, such asReeves thinking he lost Robert Pattinson toTenet, production being suspended due to Pattinson testing positive for COVID, and even having to recreate Wabash Station on a sound stage because of the pandemic. However, with a new movie comes new problems.RELATED:The Batman’s Penguin Spinoff Series Gets First Behind-The-Scenes Look In New TeaserMidgard Timesreports that filming has been delayed forThe Batman Part 2from this November to March 2024. Matt Reeves, Mattson Tomlin, and Colin Farrell fully support the strike, as they have been seen on the front lines with other writers. As a result,The Penguinhas paused production because ofthe WGA Writers' Strike, which is likely the reason forThe Batman Part 2pushing back its filming timeline. This presents its own uncertainties because there is currently no foreseeable conclusion to the strikes soon, with some theorizing that it could be up to a year.
Currently,Ryan Reynolds is unable to improvise inDeadpool 3because of the WGA Strike, which doesn’t bode well for a film of that nature, but in the case ofThe BatmanandThe Penguin, production should be pushed back rather than go through those same obstacles. Despite these hurdles, the WGA Strike is affecting all of Hollywood, and rightfully so, but they aren’t problems that exist exclusively toThe Batmansequel. However, thissongissickreported that London’s Printworks, the venue transformed into the Iceberg Lounge, had been closed and will be renovated for office space, so it can not be used forThe Batman Part 2.
Fans have pointed out that Warner Bros. had already bought a Subway car from Chicago to film the opening ofThe Batmanand point to other instances, such as the Wachowski’s having an entire freeway built to film the iconic chase scene inThe Matrix Reloaded, to suggest why this will not be too much of an inconvenience. It is unknown how this news has affectedThe PenguinTV series; one could imagine that contracts with the venue were already in place to continue filming there or filming at the venue had already been completed, so the MAX series should remain unaffected by these issues. Gotham was flooded at the end ofThe Batman, so it also presents story-related opportunities on how to relocate Iceberg Lounge, presumably under new management by Oswald Cobblepot after what will transpire inThe Penguin.
The Batman Part 2is scheduled to be released on July 22, 2025.
