For months now, a new fan favourite character has emerged as the real MVP ofThe Batman, and it’s not James Gordon, Selina Kyle, or Alfred Pennyworth. Instead, it’s none other than one of Gotham City Police Department’s finest, Officer Martinez, who’s gone from obscurity to virality ever since the movie premiered.
Despite sharing scenes with actors such as Paul Dano, John Turturro, Colin Farrell, and evenThe Batman’s own protagonist, Robert Pattinson, it turns out Gil Perez-Abraham’s minor role has actually made him quite popular among DC fans. It’s not that the actor doesn’t deserve praise for his part, as Officer Martinez does show up in several of the film’s pivotal moments, which have been carefully put together to make the case for why he isThe Batman’s best characterbar none.

The @CBMovieFan Twitter handle essentially just summed up some of Perez-Abrahams greatest moments, of which there are many. After all, it’s Martinez who ends up working like the kind of perfect supporting actor, given that it almost seems like he’s not there, yet he’s key in so many scenes. For example, Officer Martinez is the first member of the GCPD who tries to prevent Batman from entering the movie’s opening crime scene, he’s absolute Bruce Wayne stan, hephysically arrests the Riddler, takes Carmine Falcone into custody, and even grows fond of Batman as the film progresses.
As if all that wasn’t enough, Martinez’s crowning moment is possibly when he helps Batman with the final clue to solve the Riddler final puzzle. He also gets a piece of the action and possibly some blood splashed on his uniform when Falcone is hot toward the end of the movie. This lovely fan theory had been brewing on Reddit for months with r/EpicHawkREDDIT possibly being the first to give Officer Martinez some deserved credit.
The Batman’s reboot story worked out fantastically well for Warner Bros., making room for the future Batman spinoff series already in the works, all set in Matt Reeves' own Batverse and not to be confused with the struggling DCEU. That world has its own version of Batman, as both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck are expected to appear inThe Flash, the film that was meant to give the DCEU a much-needed reboot untilEzra Miller’s legal problems messed up long-term plansmade by the studio.
On a different front, it appearsBatgirlis getting some nice reactionsfrom test screening audiences, as the HBO Max exclusive brings a new formula to DC courtesy ofMs. Marveldirecting duo Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah.
