Summary
Outfitssymbolize how far the player has come inSea of Thieves,so it’s vital they have a great set of clothes to show off their skills. While outfits inSea of Thieveswon’t affect how successful the player is in a battle, they still look fantastic. There are many sets to choose from, and players are often encouraged to mix and match items or choose a set to coordinate with their crew and ship.
While mixing and matching clothes inSea of Thievesis often fun, sets can mean much more than simply having the gold or Ancient Coins to afford such an item. Outfits can represent how far the crew has come, where they’ve sailed, and what they’re working towards. Outfits are personal stories of the crew’s journey, but some could be worth showing off more than others.

Although functional armor doesn’t exist inSea of Thieves, one outfit set will convince the crew they have some decent, strong armor to protect them from pesky skeletons. It will also make them feel a little wealthier and maybe a bit more sophisticated.
The Imperial Sovereign setrocks gold-plated armor from helmet to breastplate to golden-tipped shoes. Though it doesn’t show off any golden metal, it compensates through golden silks for the belt and arms. It looks strong, regal, and at its best when it hits the sun. It’s perfect for a gold-hunting pirate or a wannabe knight.

The Bone Crusher outfit could signal to other players that the player has playedSea of Thievesfor a long time.
While perhaps not the most practical outfit to wear when sailing the high seas, theBone Crusher or Fearless Bonecrushergreen variant sets look like the crew has been through its fair share of skeleton fights. Both sets place bones on nearly every part of this outfit, even forcing the poor pirate to walk on what looks like a spine, which can’t be comfortable.
While only some pieces of the original Bone Crusher design remain available, both designs make for a terrifying outfit with bones shown off like a prize, including the hook, hat, and shoulders. Kit this out with skull face paint, and the entire crew will look the part.
Obtain Hoarder of Barnacled Gold Commendation.
It could signal to other players that the player has played Sea of Thieves for a long time.
Most of the time, when a newSea of Thievessolo playerarrives, they might choose the brightest ship and outfit they can. This can be great for those good at combat since other players may easily spot the ship, but players less skilled in PVP may prefer a subtle yet cool ship design and outfit.
The Silent Barnacle outfitis a variant of the original Wailing Barnacle set. It looks like the average clothes that any pirate might wear but has little barnacles placed on the jacket, gloves, eyepatch, and wherever else they fit. It features lovely colors and is enough to blend in yet still feel like a true pirate.
Purchasable from the Pirate Emporium.
Towards the end of Season 8,Sea of ThievesaddedHalocontentin the shape of aHalo-inspiredInfinite Depths costume, complete with a Master Chief-style hat-helmet and a set of weapon skins. This isn’t the first timeSea of Thieveshas droppedHalo-themed cosmetics, with previous additions including 2019’sHaloship set.
The Infinite Depths costume is perfect for fans ofHalowho want to enjoy a bit of crossover fun. However, some players might prefer the look of the weapon skins, such as the awesome-looking energy sword.
Pirate Emporium.
Iconic classic pirate and movie characters.
Sea of Thieveshas manyPirates of the Caribbean-themed outfits available for players to purchase in the Pirate Emporium and could be a good option for those wonderingwhat to buy withSea of Thieves' Ancient Coins. Season 9 has some noteworthy additions with theRedd and Tia Dalma costumes.Redd takes inspiration from the infamous pirate Redd in Disney’sPirates of the Caribbeanride, where fans of the namesake movies may enjoy stepping into the role of Tia Dalma, also known as sea goddess Calypso.
ManySea of Thievesfans prefer classic, understated pirate wear, making either costume one of the best traditional outfits added to the game.
This signifies players have completed the Fort of the Damned at least 10 times.
Going from subtle to deadly, the Ferry of the Damned is a place no one wants to be, especially since it typically means their ship or crew is in danger. Unfortunately, there’s not much to do there except bother the Ferryman, who looks so awesome it wouldn’t be surprising if some players want to look just like him.
With theFerry of the Damned set, they can. It’s an outfit with a greenish tinge and looks straight out of the depths of that stressful ship. Anyone who feels like they spend all their time on the Ferry can finally feel like they belong.
The Lionfish costumeis anything but subtle and will certainly not make the crew look like formidable pirates. It may even help them blend in with the fish in the sea rather than on their ship. Nevertheless, what pirate doesn’t want to look like a bright-colored Lionfish? It has a great mask to hide the pirate’s identity and is one of the funnier outfits that’s well worthSea of Thieves' Ancient Coins.
A similar addition isthe Wrecker Wrangler costume, which has more ferocious vibes with its sharp-toothed headpiece and spiked appearance worth a jump-scare underwater.
Gunpowder barrels are either a pirate’s best friend or worst nightmare. Nothing is worse than fighting a group of skeletons, only to hear the sizzle of a fuse going off behind the crew. They are deadly items that can easily be played into the pirate’s favor if used correctly.
Once the crew has mastered this item, they may want to reward themselves with theBarrel Bombardier set. It’s perfect for those who love the gunpowder barrel since most of the outfit looks crafted from one. It screams explosive crew and looks impressive.
Pirate Emporium
A frosty design that comes in three curse-like stages and comes with an ice emote.
The Creeping Cold Costume setis perfect for anySea of Thievesplayer fond of the game’s frostier designs. Originally rewarded as part of Season 5’s Plunder Pass, all three stages of the costume made a return in the Pirate Emporium for Season 12, which players can also purchase individually if they wish. It’s also one of few costumes that come with an emote, called the ice emote.
The first design features a lavish coat and is the most understated of the three, but is said to be the clothing of choice for frozen freebooters who sail in the icy winds. The second turns the players' skin blue with the cold beginning to set in, making it look like aSea of Thievescurse. The third design is the most intense, turning the player’s pirate body into a living icicle as a result of the Creeping Cold and ships becoming frozen in time.
A dark gray outfit that is ideal for stealth tactics when worn together or with other dark-colored outfit pieces. The Shadow Tide clothing set also features a full-face ninja mask that reveals only a pirate’s eyes. Players can also unlock other masks that could go well with the outfit, like the Monstrous Mask of Mayhem, which has a sinister design, or the Thieving Mask of Mischief for Rogue vibes.
WhileSea of ThievesSeason 14 introduces more stealth tactics and tools to the game, like the Blowdart weapon, it also leans into pirates vs. ninjas vibes with its ninja-styleShadow Tide clothing set. Despite its relatively plain print and rope design, it could be one of the coolestSea of Thievesoutfits complete with a ninja or fox mask, jacket, trousers, shirt, pegleg, hook, gloves, belt, boots, or dress. The gray color scheme could also be a great option for pirates looking to sneak around and get stealthy.
Sea of ThievesSeason 14 also introduces new masks which could be paired with the Shadow Tide clothing set or other dark-colored outfits. While some players might prefer other masks, theMonstrous Mask of Mayhemis awarded for completing all Commendations inSea of Thieves' Pirates of Mischief Commendationsset and displays a player’s mastery of stealth.
