Just like many of the other young actors from the HBO fantasy seriesGame of Thrones, Sophie Turner got her big break thanks to the show. Born in 1996, Turner was still a teenager when she was cast as Sansa Stark and went on to portray the character for all eight seasons of the show.

Her character gradually transformed from a spoiled young noblewoman to a brave woman who overcame all the challenges she faced in the past. Even though Sansa continues to be Sophie Turner’s best-known role, the young actress has also appeared in multiple movies of various genres. Some of her work got good ratings online and no fan of Turner’s run as Sansa should miss out on watching her best movies.
4X-Men: Apocalypse (2016)
Sophie Turner is one of the many actresses who can say she joined a running superhero series and also one of the few female heroines who got her own solo movie. The character of Jean Grey is complicated, as Jean struggles with her powers as well as her previous life. Luckily, she makes some friends and finds a temporary home with the other mutants. Of course, the emphasis in this movie lies on the fight against the all-too-powerfulancient mutant Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac.
Jean’s personal storyline works as well though thanks to the script and Turner’s performance. The movie features multiple big names, so it functions as an ensemble superhero piece, but that doesn’t mean that Turner’s fans won’t get to see a lot of her inX-Men: Apocalypse. An interesting fact is that before the role of Jean Grey went to Sophie Turner, other famous actresses were considered for the part, and not just a few. Any one of Elle Fanning, Chloë Grace Moretz, Hailee Steinfeld, Saoirse Ronan, Daisy Ridley, Lily Collins, or Margot Robbie could have been Jean!
3The Thirteenth Tale (2013)
Even those fans of Sophie Turner who saw her in her two most famous roles - as Sansa Stark inGame of Thronesand as Jean Grey in theX-Menseries - might not be familiar with her very first movie. Two years after she joined the cast ofGame of Thrones,Turner appeared in a British television horrormovie alongside other familiar names, such as Olivia Colmanand Vanessa Redgrave. The movie tells the story of a dying writer, Vida, who asks a younger writer Margaret to write her autobiography. As Vida recalls her past, it becomes obvious there’s something dark lurking in it.

The movie creates a scary atmosphere and offers more than one surprising scene. Even though Sophie Turner doesn’t have a leading role inThe Thirteenth Tale, it’s still impossible to miss her in the movie since she plays not one but two characters! Turner portrayed the younger version of Vida as well as her twin sister Adeline who died young. She gives a solid performance in both parts and the rest of the cast doesn’t disappoint either. With less than three thousand ratings on IMDb,The Thirteenth Taleis one of several hidden gems buried in Turner’s filmography.
2Time Freak (2018)
Time travel is a popular science fiction trope in movies, and it sometimes gets combined with other genres, such as romance.Time Freakis a sci-fi romantic comedy about a young student called Stillman (Asa Butterfield) who is having a hard time dealing with the break-up with his girlfriend Debbie (Turner). When he gets the chance to travel in time, Stillman decides to find out when exactly the relationship went wrong and fix things so that Debbie won’t break up with him. However, this mission proves to be far more complicated than he’d first suspected.

Asa Butterfield and Sophie Turner work well as a duo, even though their characters aren’t together for all that much of the movie.Time Freakshas a fast pace, and it can make the audience laugh at times as well as consider the moral question of traveling in time in order to fix a broken relationship. Whether what Stillman is doing is wrong or right doesn’t change the fact thatTime Freakis an enjoyable movie in which Sophie Turner proves that she can pull off the sci-fi genre just as well as fantasy.
1X-Men: Dark Phoenix (2019)
It’s true thatX-Men: Dark Phoenixdidn’t get as high ratingsas other movies in theX-Menfranchise. However, that doesn’t mean that the movie isn’t enjoyable for superhero fans. Even though the script doesn’t always do the characters justice (such as when it removes Quicksilver from the story so that the heroes have a harder time winning), the actors give strong performances.
Since the movie centers around Jean Grey, Sophie Turner naturally has even more space than she had inX-Men: Apocalypse, which in turn gives her the chance to show even more aspects of her heroine’s complicated character. In the end, Jean comes out as the sympathetic one out of the movie despite all the blunders and mistakes that she makes - and Turner’s fantastic performance plays a big part in that.
