It would be impossible to talk about the greatest open-world games of all time without mentioning the masterpiece that isThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Nintendo went above and beyond the call of duty in an attempt to reinvent theZeldafranchise for a new generation, and the end result has been nothing short of spectacular.

Breath of the Wildserves as a stark departure from the usual norms of theZeldafranchise, featuring a massive open-world with freeform dungeon exploration and puzzle-solving that is quite entertaining in its own right. However, it’s the small touches inBreath of the Wildthat make for such a magical experience, with some special events and encounters in the game being notable in their own right. Here’s a look at ten such rare instances inBreath of the Wild.
10A Good Samaritan Who Stops Link From Jumping Off To His Doom
Any fan ofBreath of the Wildwould be more than familiar with the name Brigo — a seemingly unimportant character who ends up being a part of one of the most memorable moments inBreath of the Wild.
If the player ends up stepping on the edge of a bridge while Brigo is around, then he’ll implore the player to step down and rethinking their life choices. It’s a rather surprising and heartfelt moment that shows how much love and care went into the development of this game.
9An Encounter With The Horse God Malanya
Players who end up bonding withthe horses they boardin the game might find it a rather tough pill to swallow when one such steed might end up dying as a result of an ill-timed drop,a monster attack, unintended friendly fire, or anything else along the same lines.
Thankfully, there’s a way to resurrect these dead horses — players who go to Malanya Spring might find a structure resembling a Great Fairy Spring… only for the player to be taken completely by surprise when the figure that comes out of this spring is a god by the name of Malanya. While somewhat terrifying at first glance, Malanya ends up helping out the player by resurrected any dead horses that were boarded… after a one-time fee, that is.
8Finding Kilton, The Monster Merchant
While Kilton might be a fairly legendary figure inBreath of the Wild, one has to admit that trying to encounter this merchant can be quite a pain, especially after the first time.

However, players who roam around the world ofBreath of the Wildand are patient enough will soon encounter this special merchant, who sells a wide variety of useful items, such asmonster masksand the Dark Armor set.
7Seeing The Aurora Borealis In The Sky
Given the number of visually pleasing elements inBreath of the Wild, it was only a given that the famous Aurora Borealis would also make an appearance in this game.
However, encountering this curious phenomenon is easier said than done. After all, the Aurora Borealis is not something simple that can be encountered at a moment’s notice — players need to head to Hebra Mountain and cross their fingers in the hope that this aurora has appeared in the sky.
6Finding The Horned Statue In Hateno Village
Players who feel like they haven’t been smart about upgrading their health and stamina inBreath of the Wildcan use a rather menacing statue in Hateno Village to customize Link as they see fit.
This Horned Statue might seem somewhat evil, but actually helps players accomplish a rather important task — it allows them toswitch around their Health and Stamina upgradesas they see fit, with each switch costing just 20 Rupees in total.
5Receiving Hestu’s Gift After Gathering All 900 Korok Seeds
The Korok Seeds are fun collectibles to find inBreath of the Wild, and it certainly helps that these seeds end up fulfilling the rather important role of increasing Link’s inventory slots as well.
That being said, gathering all the 900 Korok Seeds present in the game can prove to be a major task. Not only is this not required, but the end reward for fulfilling this quest is a big pile of what is essentially crap from Hestu.
It seems that even Nintendo doesn’t shy away from some good ol' toilet humor.
4Starting The Tarrey Town Sidequest
Helping in the construction of Tarrey Townis easily one of the most entertaining parts of the game… which makes it quite a shame that most players never even managed to trigger this sidequest.
This is mainly because one can easily miss the members of the Bolson Construction Homes, who are working on an abandoned home that link can purchase to trigger the start of the Tarrey Town project, present near the Great Fairly of the Akkala region.
3Reaching Eventide Island
A great part aboutBreath of the Wildis that players can venture towards any area that they can notice in the distance… including a rather innocuous island in the distance that houses one of the hardest challenges inBreath of the Wild.

Eventide Islandis no measly matter to overcome, with the player being stripped of all their equipment and being forced to tackle the challenges of this islandusing only the tools that can be salvaged in this area. While this challenge can be quite unforgiving, one can’t deny that taking care of this area once and for all gives quite a massive sense of accomplishment indeed.
2Finding A Giant Horse During Your Journey
Players who might be irritated with the rather annoying stamina mechanic while riding a horse inBreath of the Wildcan try boarding a huge horse that has unlimited stamina… although the act of doing so can be quite a challenge.
This horse is present in the Taobab Grassland, and taming it can be quite a task. However, players who manage to accomplish this lofty task will be rewarded with one of the most unique steeds inBreath of the Wild.
1Finding The Spirit Of Satoru Iwata
But of course, it would be impossible to talk about unique horses inBreath of the Wildwithout mentioning a legendary figure that represents one of the most important people to ever work at Nintendo — Satoru Iwata.
His spirit has been preserved and represented inBreath of the Wildas the Lord of the Mountain — an incredibly rare creature that can only be encountered on top of Satori Mountain when a green glow appears on top of this structure. It’s a hauntingly beautiful moment that shows just how amazingBreath of the Wildcan be at times.
