Games can change quite a lot throughout development, even after showcasing gameplay at a convention. In the case ofThe Witcher 3, the footage throughout 2014 had shown a slightly different UI to what ultimately ended up being in the game. While the end result looks great, many players preferred the HUD from the trailers, and that’s exactly where this mod comes in.

From the menu to inventory and the actual HUD itself, everything has been made to look as closely as possible to the trailer version. The mod does look great, which is especially impressive given that the author recreated all of it basically from scratch.

Alternate Lightsources Interaction

Truly countless memes have been born from thisonelittle nuisance. Even in the updated version of the game, who hasn’t tried to talk to an NPC or a merchant, and instead got to extinguish a bunch of candles, over and over again?

What is extra astonishing, is howsimplethe fix itself is. By default, Geralt will need either Aard or Igni, to extinguish or light up fire sources, making it nearly impossible to do so by accident. Hard to tell why a variation of this wasn’t included in the vanilla game, but thousands of players are very grateful to the mod author.

Better Than Icons - NextGen

6Better Than Icons

Endorsements: 3,706

Most players might not use the consumables too frequently, especially on lower difficulty levels. But as players dive into Hard and above, their usefulness and evennecessitybecome quite self-evident, even the oils and bombs. Felling especially difficult monsters and bosses becomes much more manageable with the correct buffs and potions, giving players more breathing room.

This mod goes a long way to improving the visuals for a lot of ingredients and runes, making them really pop on the screen with vibrant backgrounds and highlight visuals. If one is to spend a lot of time crafting, why not look at better icons while doing so?

Sort Everything

Endorsements: 6,650

The game hasa lotof information to throw at the player. From countless quests and books to countless items and consumables, there is no shortage of things to keep track of. The default system is not terrible per se, but it can certainly be better,

This mod does a thorough job of sorting, giving players multiple ways that they would like their inventory labeled. From alphabetical order to new items or entries being at the top, players can now easily find whatever information or item they’re looking for.

AMM - The Appearances Menu Mod

Endorsements: 9,910

Perhaps Geralt might not be the most famous character that has engaged in Fashion Wars, but it certainlyhas not stopped thousands of playersfrom showing off their gear and interesting combinations. At some point, one’s collection of items might begin to take too much space in the inventory, and going back and forth between the chest takes far too long.

This mod allows players to change the visuals of their equipment on the fly, without affecting the actual stats, preserving the balance of items. On top of that, players can also change the visuals of Roach, giving the (mostly) loyal steed some much-needed love.

Colored Map Markers

3Colored Map Markers

Endorsements: 11,072

The vanilla markers can look almost disorienting, especially on a full map. The fact that most of them are of similar size and color, distinguishing a vendor from a quest can prove to be problematic.

This mod aims to solve that very problem by color-coding every type of marker. Players are encouraged to read the mod description page, to familiarize themselves with the colors and variations. Overall, it is a neat way to help players better orient themselves on the map, effectively cutting the time one might spend hopelessly scrutinizing the tiny markers.

(Classic Edition) Friendly HUD

2(Classic Edition) Friendly HUD

Endorsements: 25,147

This mod makes the entire HUD extremely customizable, allowing players to tailor their experienceexactlyhow they like it. On top of that, there are many little quality-of-life improvements, such as theeasy access to inventoryvia a radial menu, or allowing players to pause their game at any point without skipping cutscenes.

It can also be quite freeing to simply disable the HUD altogether out of combat, allowing players to really enjoy the fantastic scenery and the unique ambiance that the game is known for. Overall, with more than a million downloads, this mod is a fantastic addition to any modder’s library.

All Quest Objectives On Map

1All Quest Objectives On Map

Endorsements: 61,473

It can be truly excruciating, to find out that one had a quest right next to the spot they just teleported out of. By default, quest markers are only visible for one mission at a time, making multitasking a real nightmare.

With this mod, players cando whatever quest they prefer, and simultaneously check the vicinity for any other quest markers. It’s also quite easy to plan for multiple quests at once, especially if one sees a cluster of markers in one place. The mod also makes a number of tweaks to other markers, and it is easy to see why it’s the most downloaded UI mod for the game.
