The hit Netflix seriesTheWitcherseason 2 will begin filming soonaccording to lead actor Henry Cavill, and recent sightings of crew members may reveal the filming location. A location scout team was recently seen in Scotland heading towards the Isle of Skye, which has been used for many Netflix shows in the past. More specifically, the Isle of Skye was seen in episodes ofDaredevil, a project thatWitchershowrunner Lauren Hissrich also was a part of.
A crew member of the location team posted a photo to their Instagram stating that they were “On the run withThe Witcherscout crew, exploring remote settings…” The photo shows a crew trekking across a rocky beach and in the middle of a beautiful cove. As of now, it is undetermined what storylines season 2 ofThe Witcherwill follow but there are plenty of fan theories.

Although season 1 covered several of the stories from the first book, many areanticipating further exploration in season 2. There may be a few reasons why the Isle of Skye is being used in season 2 ofThe Witcherone reason being that the show has yet to officially visit the island of Skellige. Skellige is the island that the character Eist, the man who marries Queen Calanthe, is from and where Ciri is trying to travel to after the battle in Cintra.
Another theory is that this may be a location may be conducive to thestory of Geralt and Dandelion (Jaskier in the television show)escorting a man to meet his love, a mermaid. It’s a strong character-building moment that influences some major decisions within Geralt, but a fun side-story nonetheless.
Apart from theories, showrunner Lauren Hissrich has confirmed two main things in season 2, a focus on the extinction of monsters and a simpler timeline.In a response on Reddit, Hissrich confirmed that the story of season 1 didn’t delve into the conundrum of monsters going extinct because she wanted to establish the human’s hate for the Witchers.
“That’s the rub. Needing what you hate. We needed the hatred in the series, to understand why our hero was an outsider. So we made the choice to keep the monsters more present for these thirty years.”
The timeline of season 1 was a big debate amongst fans and spanned the course of 30 years. Hissrich has also responded to the comments assuring fans thatseason 2 will in fact be a more straightforward timeline. Whether or not this timeline will include a trip to Skellige is yet to be seen, but as of now,The Witcheris set to film between February and August with a release date sometime in 2021.
