Top Gun: Mavericknow looks guaranteed to become the biggest film in 2022, so how does one improve upon such a cinematic hit? Well, in usual internet fashion, a cat may be the answer, as a new fan-made trailer introduces Tom Cruise to a new type of friend.
Premiering back in May, the long-awaitedTop Gunsequel is now the eleventh highest-grossing film of all time (not accounting for inflation), boasting a $1.487 billion box office haul thanks to an extended theatrical run. Although the film is still not available for streaming on Paramount Plus, it did get a digital release that makes it easier for content creators to add their spin to the high-flying blockbuster.

Among those content creators is theOwlKittyYouTube channel, which frequently adds inserts a two-year black cat from Portland named Lizzy into some popular movies to great comedic effect. So naturally, this self-proclaimed movie kittycouldn’t miss out onTop Gun: Maverick. The result is a hilarious video that sees Captain Pete Mitchell bring along some furry company for his time as an instructor in the Top Gun academy, combining iconic scenes from both the 1986 film and this year’s sequel to turn OwlKitty into the perfect wingman for Maverick.
There is no sign of One Republic’s “I Ain’t Worried” song here. Instead, it’s all about Kenny Loggins' “Danger Zone,” as the mock trailer features OwlKitty in both completely absurd scenes and even a few where her presence doesn’t feel that out of place. Of course, the iconic beach volleyball scene inTop Gunmakes it into the trailer instead of the football scene from the new movie, probably because cats wouldn’t make for the best passers or receivers.
