ATwitchaccount that plays reruns of now-departed streamer Reckful was suddenly banned on March 8 and then unbanned without explanation several hours later. Reckful’s tragic passing in 2020 broke the hearts of many of his fans. Some of Reckful’s associates decided to create a channel dedicated to replaying hisTwitchVODs, creating a place for fans to celebrate theWorld of Warcraftplayer’s life online. It’s unclear where today’s brief interruption to the Twitch stream came from.
Reckful was one of Twitch’s most popular streamers. He got on the Twitch bandwagon early, streaming as early as 2009. His favorite game wasWorld of Warcraft, in which he competed professionally and consistently performed among the best players in the world. Part of why Reckful connected with his audience was his openness regarding his struggles with depression and mental illness, as he was diagnosed with bipolar II disorder as a child.Reckful passed awayon July 15, 2025, at the age of 31.

Early Wednesday morning, the ReckfulRerun Twitch account was suddenly banned without warning. All that was clear was the ban for ReckfulRerun was listed as an indefinite ban, meaning it may have been permanent. Those running the channel would later confirm that Twitch’s ban was due to “Distribution of Malware or Harmful Websites,” but no further information was provided as perTwitch policy. An appeal was made with the help of Reckful’s friends on Twitch, and the channel was unbanned less than three hours later.
While it’s entirely unclear what happened to the ReckfulRerun channel that caused the ban, it was likely due to an automated system flagging the channel incorrectly. Perhaps there were malicious reports from multiple users trying to troll the channel or a raid of bots sharing links to malware in the chat. Then, as soon as a review was done of the ban, Twitch was able to get it back up and running.
A post made on the LivestreamFail subreddit was made by Reckful’s video editor/Twitch moderator with some additional information. They explained that the channel was made after it became “impossible to do reruns” as Reckful was theonly one with access to his Twitch stream key. The channel itself is said to be “100% non-profit” and exists solely as a place where fans can “come together and watch comfy old vods with a friendly chat.”
Twitch’s community can be quite aggressive at times and when the RecikfulRerun channel was first banned there was a lot of suspicion that someone was trying to profit off of Reckful’s name without permission. Banning the account was, in that moment, more than justified according to the Twitch community. Clarification that the channel was being run by associates of Reckful, that it hadn’t signed up forTwitch’s Affiliate or Partner program, and that it meant a lot to many Reckful fans, helped ease those tensions. Hopefully, the confusion will help bring together more of Reckful’s fans with fond memories of theTwitchstreamer.
