Riot Games multiplayer shooterValorantcould be adding a ranked mode very soon. The developer had confirmed thatValorantwouldn’t have ranked mode when its closed beta beganso that it could give players time to get used to the game.

On Twitter, aValorantclosed betaplayer asked the game’s developers when ranked mode would be available as unranked solo queue is just too hard for them. The player also shared a screenshot of the scoreboard from aValorantdefeat where they had nearly twice the number of kills and nearly double the average combat score of any other person in the game.

Valorantgame director Joe Ziegler responded with some positive news, confirming that the developer’s first tests of a ranked mode are happening in the next couple of weeks. Ziegler also told theValorantplayer to “stay tuned” for more information. Ziegler’s response was posted on April 10, which was a week ago, suggesting thatValorant’s ranked mode could be available by the end of April.

Riot has been working on several features to get its new game ready for high-level play. Earlier this week, Riot confirmedearly plans for theValorantesports scene, such as an ability toggle off blood in professional matches. The developer also confirmed that it would be forming partnerships with streamers, tournament organizers, and content creators. This organization is all important but a ranked mode will be seen as one of the biggest steps towards makingValorantesports happen.

The developer has also confirmed that it is working on Riot Direct, its own ISP, to giveValoranta huge technical advantage over games likeOverwatchandCounter-Strike: Global Offensive. Giving the game a higher server tick-rate should provide less lag and fewer frustrations for high-levelValorantplayers, allowing every ranked mode player to know that they really earned their wins.

However, Riot may feel that there are several more important things inValorantthat it needs to fix before allowing everybody to enjoy a ranked mode. This week, the developer announced that it had released aValoranthotfix for a major, game-breaking bug with Cypher. The update also fixed several map exploits.

Those in theValorantclosed beta may want to show how good they are at the game by using ranked mode, but that may mean very little if the game is completely broken. It’s unclear when Riot will make an announcement about ranked mode’s release though things do seem positive.
