Summary
Being in a world of adventure, Priestess is an adventurer in theGoblin Slayerseries. At first look, she does not look like she has what it takes to be an adventurer because her naivety is as clear as day on her face, but she does not lack determination. This determination pushes her throughouttheGoblin Slayerseriesto gradually become a good adventurer and rise from being a porcelain-ranked adventurer to sapphire.
When she starts on her first adventure, things go south. She and the group of adventurers go to kill goblins as their first quest but get cornered. Priestess is the only lucky person who gets saved by the Goblin Slayer as the rest suffer terrible fates. Priestess is not the strongest, and she has some weaknesses that put her at a disadvantage when fighting, but she is determined and always ready to help the Goblin Slayer and the rest of the party when she can.
1Experience
Priestess’s inexperience is glaring, but every strong adventurer started from the bottom with little to zero experience and built their strength by training and fighting against creatures. She has few combat skills, but as the anime progresses, she keeps improving, albeit slowly. Her lack of experience would have been the death of her, like the rest of her party in the first episode ofGoblin Slayer, ifthe Goblin Slayerhad not saved her in the nick of time.
She lacks experience and knows it, but she is smart enough to follow the Goblin Slayer’s instructions and tactics during quests. As she continues to tag along with the Goblin Slayer, she gains experience and clever tactics that allow her to be of help during battles.
2Naïveté
Priestess is still new to the harsh realities of life as she believes everyone can be saved and deserves a second chance. Although she is beginning to see the duality of life, she is still not used to the idea. Her naivety allows her to trust strangers, and it makes her also blind to looming dangers. On her first day as an adventurer, she follows a party of adventurers on a goblin quest, knowing she does not have the skills to fight them. The Guild Girl even warned them to attend to a quest less dangerous but to no avail.
When everything goes south during the quest, instead of Priestess fleeing from the danger that is clearly beyond her, she tries to save her fellow adventurers, but she fails and is almost a victim herself. In addition, Priestess was yet to understandhow dangerous goblins were, but that encounter and others with the Goblin Slayer opened her eyes.
3She Is Afraid Of Goblins
Goblins are often underestimated, and people do not seem to seehow much of a threat they areas she embarks on a goblin-slaying quest with theparty of adventurers. She sees firsthand how brutal and evil they are as they assault the female adventurers and kill the male. Even though she is traumatized by the events that unfolded in her presence, she still goes ahead to tell the Goblin Slayer to spare the little goblins in the cave.
The suggestion further buttresses just how naive she is, and the Goblin Slayer has to inform her that goblins, regardless of how small they are, hold grudges, and it is always better to kill them. As the anime progresses, she continues to see how evil and dangerous they are. Her fear grows, and it sometimes makes her slow to take action against them, but she is quick to snap out of it.
4Lacks Combat Skills
Priestess cannot fight hand to hand or use any weapon against her opponents, and it is very dangerous as it makes her an easy target. She lacks combat skills, but she can cast miracle spells and has about six different ones she can cast. Other than these spells, there is nothing more Priestess can contribute during quests. Even her spells are limited because she can only cast three miracle spells in a day.
Unlike the Goblin Slayer and the other party members, who can use weapons to fight against goblins and other monsters, the Priestess has no weapon, and she only has her staff for casting spells. Her lack of combat skills is setting her back because, without these skills, she cannot climb through the adventurers' ranks.
5Overly Depends On Her Party Members
Priestess is in a party with the Goblin Slayer, High Elf Archer, Dwarf Shaman, and Lizard Priest. Her party members are all stronger than her as she is just a sapphire-ranked adventurer amid silvers. She is inexperienced, and this makes her vulnerable during quests.
She is also easily frightened, and this makes it hard for her to stay ahead of her opponents. She seems to be okay using her miracle spells to help her party members, and this, unfortunately, is not enough to get her to rise from sapphire to their level, silver. Her dependence on her party members for protection and instructions during battles is unfair to them as they are busy trying to verify they do not become victims of their opponents. However, inseason two ofGoblin Slayer, Priestess takes on a more active role by giving out strategic orders, but she still gets overwhelmed during battles and depends on the Goblin Slayer and the rest of the party.
