Summary
2023 was a great year for video games, with many of its highly anticipated games becoming huge successes. However, while most of last year’s anticipated releases were expected to make waves in the gaming industry, none were as big a surprise asDead Island 2. Deep Silver Dambuster Studios' sequel to the hit zombie survival game from 2011 quickly became one of the best in the genre, despite some all-too-familiar mechanics and a lack of replay value that has left many players wanting.
Kicking off 2024, there aren’t many plans for moreDead Island 2content, but with the success of itsHausDLC under its wings, it aims to soar to greater heights by whatever means necessary. Despite a lack of announcements from Dambuster about more content forDead Island 2, fans shouldn’t be so quick to write it off, as the game still has content yet to be released.
Dead Island 2may lack a significant amount of replay value, but Dambuster has not neglected the game by any means. The developer released the dark and quirkyDead Island 2HausDLCin November 2023 to positive reviews, leaving many fans anxiously awaiting what would come next for the zombie slasher. Thankfully, more content is planned for release in 2024, and it will be coming sooner rather than later.
Dead Island 2: SOLA Festivalis currently slated for a release sometime in the second quarter of 2024. Dambuster hasn’t revealed much aboutDead Island 2’sSOLA FestivalDLCyet, but the DLC’s description states “LA’s party people can greenwash their way to ecstasy and save the planet, one rave at a time.” This implies that, much like theHausDLC,SOLAwill have more of a focus on human interaction than the base game, in which players had mostly zombies to keep them company.
AsDead Island 2: SOLA Festivalwill be released sometime in Q2 2024, it’s possible to speculate on when it will launch when consideringDead Island 2’s history. The base game forDead Island 2was released in April 2023, the beginning of Q2 of that year. It’s possible then that Dambuster has plans to releaseSOLAin April 2024, as that would be the first anniversary of the game. In any case, fans can expect the release of the DLC sometime between April and June.
Dead Island 2was originally released on PS4/PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows via the Epic Games Store, but many fans have awaited the game’s release on other platforms as well. Fortunately, it was revealed in August 2023 that the hit zombie survival game would be launching on another platform in 2024, though precisely which platform has yet to be disclosed. However, there are some clear indications of which platformDead Island 2may find its way to based on the game’s development history.
During its initial development cycle,Dead Island 2was briefly added to Steam in 2016 before being removed. However, development for the game continued until its 2023 release, but it never again graced the Steam platform with its presence. This, and the Epic Games Store’s history of timed exclusives remaining on the platform for at least a year, seem to indicate thatDead Island 2will come to Steam sometime this year, but not until at least April. Furthermore, it’s possible the game could also see a Nintendo Switch release.
While there aren’t many plans forDead Island 2in 2024, there are plans nonetheless, so fans can continue anticipating more time in Dambuster’s brilliantly crafted zombie-infested streets of L.A. very soon. With theSOLA FestivalDLCon its way and the game releasing on another platform,Dead Island 2will surely see an influx of new and veteran players later this year.
